A science fiction knife ... ever since them atoms started flying around, there's mutations everywhere!

I used the clip from a Spyderco Native III that I no longer have.
You can also make one similar or ....even better.... one that has the end of the clip bent DOWN so the clip can be higher on the knife.

Once again, you've come up with something special! There's only so much plastic and steel on that knife, though. What are you gonna do when there's nothing left to mod?

My Trekker was supposed to be delivered on Monday. I was told to wait ten days before I can do anything about it. It's killing me. Oh well...maybe tomorrow.

He could always attach a shaft, to make it into a spear. And then mod the shaft! :)

That's really cool, thanks for posting your pics!!!
But, one more question, how did you remove and reattach the scale?

Peace.

The scales come off with a gentle prying through the toothpick or tweezer hole. They work off with a bit of care. They pop right back on.

The clip is no longer on the knife. It worked fine but carried it higher than I liked and basically I just don't like clips and carry in the bottom of the pocket. I put it on the other Trekker I modded into a pointy blade and have it in the truck. It will stand up to just about anything as there is no real strain on it and it is anchored well.

But.....I just don't care that much for clips.

There may be only "so much plastic and steel" but lookin at that plastic makes me itchin to try some sort of ...... checkering.

Bows, arrows, bowstring, feathers, arrowheads -- too fussy. I prefer a few straight sticks and an atlatl.

I don't know yet what lies under the scales of the OHT. Could you have made it so that the knife rides a little lower, or do the clip/knife prevent it in some way?

Scott

The PERFECT clip would be either an oval wire type spring or a flat one bent over double so it could encircle the stud that holds the scale and come out at the very top of the scale. THEN it would ride deep in the pocket.

Mine worked fine, but I ride a bicycle and it ...seemed....like it could work its way out. Other than that, it was fine.

Hey Laven-

My OHT finally arrived in today's mail. Yeah! And I thought of a couple more mods, but because you're the expert, I thought I'd run them by you before getting out the files.

1. The scale could be filed down just a bit near the opening hole to provide a little more clearance. The problem is that the scales are thin and hollow. If you go too far, you'll end up filing through the scale. Probably not worth the risk.

2. Do you think you could get better thumb purchase on the opening hole if it were beveled? I'm not sure. Maybe this is something I should ask about on the Spyderco forum.

I'd be leery of reducing the scale simply because the OHT is NOT an ...ez...open.
It's basically a slip joint that has a hole to open with one hand. Anything reducing the part you HOLD while opening would, IMO, make it harder to open.

I may be wrong, but one of the mods I never mentioned was filing the inside of the hole to be square for better grip as the stock finish is smooth and slippery.

But who knows?
