The title of this post says it all...
I arrived home from work today and thought about checking the mail as I made my way through the house. Then I thought to myself, nah, there's no way my khuks will be here yet. I started to head upstairs when my eyes were drawn to a curious longish box sitting on top of one of the stereo speakers. My palms became sweaty as I approached the box. I peered at the shipping label. Sure enough, it was from HI. Holy crap! It only took two days to get here from Nevada! My wife was out running errands, so with an evil grin, I snatched the box and bounded up to the office to unpack it.
Once I had everything unwrapped, I had to sit back and take it all in. The verdict? Both of these khuks are totally impressive. The UBE measured 18 inches with a 3/8 inch spine at the bolster. The Kobra is 22 inches long with a spine thickness of about 5/16 inch. Blades are straight with good strong lines, and are smooth and highly polished. Fit and finish are totally outstanding, no unsightly gaps or gobs of laha (spelled right?). All brass is polished, smooth, well formed, and tight fitting. Both khuks feel solid and inspire confidence. Both slide in and out of their sheaths easily but still have a secure fit. Sheath leather is REALLY THICK, and the sheaths are both extremely well crafted.
But if there's one thing that really amazed me it was how agile both of these khuks are! My current workhorse khuk feels like it weighs a ton compared to these two (and its not as big as either of these). I know these are both massive hunks of steel, but I just couldn't get my arm to send that message to my brain. I don't know what sort of mojo Uncle Bill and HI put put into these khuks, but believe me, it's there!
There are only had three problems:
1) I find the handle on the UBE a bit too thick, but I was expecting that, and it's nothing I couldn't fix with my Junior Woodchuck Wood Working Set by Spumco.
Then again, maybe I'll just leave it as is. I think it's starting to grow on me.
2) I CAN'T PUT THESE DAMN THINGS DOWN!
3) The wife eventually came home, and she's in love with the Kobra! Which means I'm gonna have to get her one of her own now. That's not such a bad thing, though.
So to sum it all up: WOW! Lightning fast shipping, super service, crazysick (in a GOOD way) deals, and product that's a 10/10. Uncle Bill, you've made a true believer out of me! I WANTS MORE!!!!!!
THANKS A MILLION!!!
