My problem and solution

OK first background... I ordered a sheath from leatherman. (they are great to work with!) At first it was a piggy back design but I was worried about the fit. The RC5 is just long enough to interfer with the Izula. So I said dont worry about it, I will just go with a big custom, drop sheath for the RC5. Well I learned a little bit about Dwayne, you see it was a challenge at that point. If you have looked in his post Some pics of my work, you will see it in progress. It looks fantastic. That same day a had an email showing me photos, I was in love! I immediately called and said YES YES YES!

So now to my issue. My RC5 is OD with micarta scales, my Izula is OD wrapped with black paracord. (OK something you need to know about me, Im ANAL!) A pair of matching blades in a double sheath is cool, when they do not match it looks like a red F150 with a blue hood... :barf:

DISCLAIMER: If your driving a red F150 w/blue hood, get over it, I'm Sorry, whatever works for you just keep reading, this is about me not you!

I wanted them to match. Adding micarta scales would exagerate the space issue, besides I have no way to do that myself. Then I saw some various colors of paracord... this is ACU Camo what do think? I think its a real close match to the micarta.

The wrap is a bit different. I used one 6 foot piece, gutted. I started at the cross piece below the carabiner loop leaving excess hanging off to form the lanyard, I went under that cross piece came around and wrapped the loop. When I got to the other side of the loop i went to the inside of the frame and followed it all the way to the end of the skeletal cut. Then it came out and I proceeded to do a standard zigzag over/under wrap until it was almost covered. Then I did two more very loose wraps then went horizontally across the cross bar keeping that loose so I could extend the end through before tightening everything up leaving the remaining paracord to complete the lanyard. Now your either with me or totally lost, so here is the pic!

Looks great. I am also very picky and would have to put a small ACU paracord lanyard on the RC-5 just to tie it all in together. Good job wrapping the Izy

I've got some tan paracord that would probably match that RC-5 handle. Nice wrapping job though.

ACU isn't even close. If you take color samples of the RC-5 micarta you come up with a tan to gray tan color. Try desert tan para-cord, I bet it's a very close to match.

in my photo the ACU Camo is lighter than the micarta
in the photo above the tan is lighter than the ACU
logic says the tan is going to be a lot lighter than micarta

I don't think the ACU Camo is "lighter" then the micarta. It has color variation leading towards a lighter look. I would recommend trying the tan.

I agree, it's hopeless so you might as well direct your energy in a more productive direction. Go beat the crap out of your RC-5 using it and all these concerns will start to seem trivial.:)

I'm glad I was able to pull that sheath off. :D

The wrap looks awesome! I'm feeling the need to wrap mine different now. Got to find more paracord.

THe acu paracord is actually seperate from the lighter green paracord which is a color called foliage green, personally i think acu is the crappiest camo pattern ever invented and if i wasnt in the army id hav enever bought anything in acu print in my life.

Im expecting a black Izula soon (since Lisa and Charlie are "out of office" it may be a couple weeks) Its going to get orange paracord. The contrast would be good for documenting the wrap so I might be doing a tutorial on my method. It works well and looks nice. The one thing I dont like is in order to get the wrap tight and to slightly overlap I had to gut it and I prefer complete paracord for its multi-use capabilities.

As far as the ACU vs Tan vs Multicam issue I dont giv'a rats ass about camo patterns or densitometry of the color. I just want the knives to resemble each other. DISCLAIMER: Its a rats ass (rodent's rectum) and has nothing to do with a RAT (knife)

^ Then grab some tan paracord, or go to an army surplus store and try to match the handle with a color.
