I had a problem with my Tanto SOCFK. Sending it back to EKI was not an option seeing as I'm in South Africa.
This was my problem. Opening the folder was very, very tight. I assumed because it was new so I lubed it with Sentry Lube...still nothing. I eased off the pivot screw...here's were the fun started.....I could open the blade but now it scraped the liner..(and this was easing off just a tiny bit)...the blade did not sit in the middle of the liners when closed and had lateral flexing when opened fully....keep in mind I eased off only a tiny bit.
The solution to my problem. I looked in the forums for solutions but could not find any that would help...I read of plenty methods of bending the blade this way and that way...but this did not work. So what I did was disassemble my folder. I noticed that what was happening was that the second ball detent was causing too much tension on the blade thus pushing the blade to the one side (i noticed that there were gaps between the washers and there respective liners)therefore causing the blade to rub against the liner when it was opened and also sitting off centre between the liners when closed.
I eased back the 2nd ball detent reducing the tension a bit....silicon greased the washers....tightened the pivot pin before assembling the rest of the folder. I now have
a smooth actioned SOCFK...no rubbing of the side scales...solid lock-up...and now sits dead centre between the liners when closed and washers are were they should be tight against both liners and blade.
I would assume that for those guys that have problems with the opposite liners must just ease back the tension off the liner-lock a bit.
This could not have been possible if it was not for Ernie and EKI developing such a User friendly folder that one can sort out yourself....so before you send your knives back to EKI to have sorted out see if you can do it yourself if you have a simmilar problem as I had.
This may not sort out all problems that you may encounter but it sorted mine out...and I really chuffed, nothing better that sorting out your own hassles......
....and I feel as if I gained a new folder....
