My problem with strippers....

LOL, tricked ya, didn't I?? :p :D

I stripped one of my blades for a super-secret project, and I noticed that a lot of rust started to build up afterwards. I coated everything thoroughly with some CorrosionX and it went away, but now I'm a little concerned about the INFI under the handle. Is it worth taking the handle pieces off? I'm mostly curious because I want to strip my FBM as well and I don't want anything getting funky under there.

P.S. - Don't tell Jaxx, but I found a way to trick him into buying ANYTHING. Got some old Pakistani junk? All you need is a Sharpie....:D

Yeah, they want to give so little for that $1. ;)

Rust? On a Busse? I've yet to see any on mine. Now yer gettin me worried.

I've got a Randall that sits out on a shelf too. EEEK!!!!

How hummmid is your house? How much use did this knife get? What's the capital of Uzbekistan? Why am I asking so many questions?

truth seeker..... man oh man.... not sure what you are doing as i have lots of infi that has been stripped, and no rust whatsoever with no protection.....

did you polish it or just strip it? i would recommend sanding her down a bit, polishing it and seeing what happens....

so you know my user fbm (see other thread) sits on my porch at night....stuck in the logs on my woodpile....completely exposed.

I've got a little rust starting on my DCSJTAC at the butt right by the lanyard hole. She's never been used and is kept in the finished area of my basement. I'm going to put RenWax on all my DC's and LE's here very shortly to prevent an more rust from starting.

If you put "Busse Combat" on that knife, Jaxx'll pay you double:D :D

I think the rust is mostly from a reaction with the stripper. (I had a reaction from a stripper once, as well, but that's a different story....) I just wondered if anybody else had seen a similar problem, but it looks like it's just me. After the CorrosionX, everything stayed pretty shiny. Just a few minutes ago, I stripped some of the coating off of the FBM's blade and there were actually a few rust spots UNDER the coating. I wanted to strip it 'cause the coating was kind of flaking off in spots. I guess moisture was getting under there where it wasn't quite bonded all the way. I'm not stripping the handle area yet until I find out more about this stripper/rust business, though. What brands did you guys use on yours? Maybe I can just go get a different kind and avoid the problem completely. I've been using Dupli-Color in an aerosol can.

It's already got "Busse Combat" on it...:D

i have used all kinds of stuff.... but most often i use the stuff we have at the shop all the time, peelaway 7

my 4 3 stipped INFI shows no oxidation/rust

2 untouched SRKW that have been stripped have zero rust

one SRKW that has been stripped and worked a little began to oxidize in just hours. When I am done with her, she will likely be duracoated.

for sure doorkicker, a reaction from the stripper. just a little residue from it left over on the blade can be real corrosive.

Where exactly is that? Can you say short stopover? On a serious note, does the stripper bother the handles? Do you protect them in some manner?
