My Rant..................

As a lot of you know, I’m shifting my collecting focus towards Custom Fixed blades by one maker.

I’ve been placing some of my Schrades on e bay; some in an “open” auction, some with reserves and some with “buy now” prices. Just as I evaluate what I am prepared to pay to acquire a knife, I evaluate what I am prepared to accept when selling a knife.

From time to time I receive a polite e mail asking if I would consider $XX for a given knife. This I appreciate and give careful consideration to.

Then, I sometimes receive an e mail from “Bubba” telling me how “knowledgeable” he is about Schrades (or, bigger than me, smarter than me, not as ugly as I am, or some other such garbage). He usually goes on to tell me that he is “kindly” offering me what is “top dollar” for my knife, and that is usually much, much less than the valuation I have placed upon the knife! The end result is that I end up pissed off!

Please don’t piss on my leg and try to tell me it’s raining!

Del

PS:
The folks I’ve dealt with from this forum have all been great! Thank you for being courteous.

Del; There will always be a few Hyper-smart Asses out there. You have earned the respect of this forum for your knowledge on things Schrade and knives in general, plus you have exhibited the fact that you are pure class, so don't give "bubba" the time it takes to get upset. You are above all that crap.

Paul

Del,
I agree with Paul. I have bought from you and have been happy with the price & quality.
"Bubba don't know S.........chrade."

Doesn't matter if it's cars, knives or used tupperware, ebay or your driveway....
There's always gonna be someone that is willing to give you the "best" price your gonna see because "they know"....:jerkit:

I wouldn't let it upset ya....;)

Later,
Bob T.

Thanks for allowing me to rant here - it's because I don't rip "Bubba" a new "thingy" that I get frustrated.

There is so much good, solid information on this forum, and, there are so many "class acts" that I tend to forget just how many jerks are really out there!

Del

del you have always been more than fair on your pricing and shipping i know when money allows i will be back! do not let them get to you!

The seller and I had a nasty discussion about his knife. Some people are soooo easy to push over the edge. I then forwarded our communications (including his threats) to ebay.

His knife is gone.
He is gone.

Mission accomplished.

Phil,
Suggest you watch for that knife and put the seller on your blocked bidder list.
With his feedback rating,I'm surprised he hadn't changed his user name before this.
He'll probably be back tomorrow under a new name.
That's why it pays to be cautious with a seller whose history started recently.
I saw one last week who supposedly started selling on ebay 3 weeks ago,but had 78 ads listed.A real fast learner,I'd say!

Along time ago a friend of my dad's who kind of adopted me taught me a very good lesson. Mr Gene Shaw looked like a cross between George C. Scott and Santa Claus. Top half had Scott's resemblance then the rosey cheeks easy go lucky smile and peering over his specks at ya were the Santa part.
Gene Shaw always had a tale or an interesting item with him. I remember a multi barrel derringer he had one time that he described as "small but it will put a hole through ya big enough for a cat to jump thru". Another time it was an old pocket watch that had more different chimes in it than a church organ. Well almost.
ANyway that gives you an idea of what a character he was. One day he explained to me a little about horsetrading. It was a long time ago so I may not have retained it all.
first thing he instilled in me was be cautious as to how you present an offer.
Some people don't mind an inquiry as to "would you consider X?". While "I'll give you X for it" may get you tossed out on your ear. The two ways of asking may sound similar, but connotations are a lot different.
Don't ever try to tell a man (60s slang for person) what his property is "worth".
Now I reckon most folks in here probably know all this, I'm not trying to say anything different. Just sharing the fact that the few minutes Gene Shaw took to educate me have been Everlasting(ly) and he was Sharp.
I also remember the time he told me to come over here he had something for me(it was the 60s it was still ok back then) He guffawed as he pulled out 6 pr of the awfullest looking sox in the world. Two each of fire truck caution yellow, electric orange and red red. I'd wear them in the house, but never dared to wear them in public. But I suspect Gene knew that when he gave them to me.
In closing, I'd like to remind Del that all I said was $45 is all I HAD to spend on his 34SA. I never ever said that was all it was WORTH!! (J/K)

And Phil I'm glad I'm still on your good side ( I think) BTW did you get the email showing the spot on the Q MOP?

I neededa 96OT 100th with the oval shield to complete my set of those, I asked you if you could sell me one and not only did you sell me one you sold it to me for a very fair price and very fair shipping. I have found more often then not it pays to ask kindly! Never know how nice people can be if you extend the same to them.
Your a good man Del!
