well, not quite :p it's an r - p .308 winchester shell i used as a handle. a .30-06 springfield shell also fits.

What exactly is the diameter of the firesteel? I like this idea as I'm useless at woodworking, and this looks doeable for me. Thanks!

I would of never though that a firesteel would fit in a .308 cartridge. That's pretty cool though and I'm sure gonna make a couple for myself!

thanks. i knew you guys would like it.

5/16"

That would scare the hell out of someone

not as bad as a .50 with a 12" rod :D

It would be sweet to make a huge one out of a .50 Cal.

just measured it. 1/2" would fit. a 1/2"x12" would be scary looking.

And it gives me a not too smart idea that should be tried out as soon as I can.

Great idea, and looks cool too! It looks like the mouth of the brass is dark. Did you epoxy or glue the rod in there?

i used loctite heavy duty epoxy that sets in 5 min and fully hardened in 24 hrs. it's semi-translucent once cured. i made a small notch around the rod's base so the glue has something to bite into.

Did you fill the shell with the epoxy, or just secure the rod around the mouth of the shell?
