Well after much debate and several side by side comparisons, my Rat was finally replaced. The Busse Satin Jack in a Mashed Cat sheath has found it's home in my BOB. I carry a trauma kit, duct tape, a diamond stone, ceramic sharpening sticks, a magnesium stick, a flint, a striker tool, couple pairs of gloves, a pistol, and a few other things. My BOB is still a work in progress, but the Busse SJ seems like a perfect fit.

Thoughts on the SJ over the Ratmandu? What do you folks carry in a BOB?

Honestly, you can't go wrong with a RatManDu or a Satin Jack. It's really a matter of whichever one fits you best.

.....this...!!!

Knives are such personal tools once you are down to choosing between quality blades the final decision is all about you ..!! :D

Sounds like a grand choice for a Bug out blade. It's substantial, but not overbuilt. My Ratmandue, was my go to hunting knife for 2011 OK Deer Season. 52100 is grand stuff IMHO. I keep a Mora #1 in my BOB, and a Fiskars folding saw, don't banish me from the Busse forum, I just don't feel comfortable leaving an expensive blade in my Bug out Bag, and feel that I can get by in the woods, with a smaller blade and folding saw, I don't see my Bug out Bag as long term by any means, but it's still a work in progress.

I love the Satin Jack. That being said the ratmandu is also a great blade. With knives it just comes down to what feels good to you.

SJ is a great choice. RMD is too. You have two blades that both fit the bill. My choice when faced with a similar dilemma... get both. :D
