My Refurb Tommy Axe Compared to an SFA

Never owned a Gransfors and was debating whether to buy Small Forest Axe.

I recently refurbed a True Temper Tomahawk Axe on a 18" handle. My Tommy axe head weighs 1.6lbs.

Comparing my Tommy to the SFA, how similar or different are they? Is the geometry different? Are the made for different tasks?

I really love my Tommy, especially now that I took off its 14" handle and put on a 18". Curious what I would benefit from buying the SFA.....

Here is my Tommy:

I think you did a nice job on that hang and it certainly is first class metallurgy. Nothing crudely thick for a blade either. If the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, and you have disposable moolah, then maybe you want to compare implements for yourself.

If I had a SFA I would pay you to trade.

File it down, though. If you get it real flat and add however thick micro bevel on it you need for your work, there will be no question about the performance.

SFA is 26" handle right? believe it is 2.5 lbs.... Also, they are made for 2 different task although they could perform many of the same. The SFA is a great axe but you could piece together something similar and great for a better price.

I found the head to this hatchet at a local antique shop. It was attached to a busted handle and needed some cleaning and fine tuning.

Then I started to make this one (to emulate the SFA) and cracked the head on heat treat. I have to split and insert a new cutting edge...
