My "replacement" for the ESEE 5

I do not think I will replace my ESEE-5. But, I do think that I would like to find comparable blades, purchase them, and see if the heavy 5" utility blade design could be improved upon. The looks of the Bark And River S.T.S 5 has caught my attention, along with the scale options, grind, and thickness (I am a sucker for thick blades). What are your thoughts? Comparable to the ESEE-5?

this makes 3 votes for the BK2. It won't break the bank either, If you can find one in stock.

Another option, the Hogue EXF01, 5.5 inch A2 blade .25in thick, theres also a 7.5in version, both with micarta scales. If you don't mind a longer blade, theres also the Knife Research Legion SC Fixed Blade Knife 6.69in blade .22in thick in Sleipner steel (d2 like steel).

I have been thinking about the BK 2 as a knife to cord wrap and have on hand for friends to use. Not a big fan of the looks to be honest, but willing to give it a try considering the price.

What do you guys think about the S.T.S 5? Seems to me to be one of my dream knives come to life. For some reason fighters turn me on all the time.

Head on over to the Becker Forum and check out some of the modded BK 2's (if you don't like the stock look) It's a great tank of a knife and easy to mod.

For example: here's mine, stripped and with teak handles. (plus a matching firesteel) :D

Good luck in your search.

edit: if you like Bark River, have you checked out the Bravo 1 - stout little knife. Remember you can always sell a GOOD knife if you don't like it. (just sayin')

I have a Esee 5 & a STS-5, as well as a STS-8. STS's are really nice blades. They are my 1st BRKTs. I don't mind beating up my esee 5. I can't see me treating my sts 5 like I do my esee.
Esee 5 has better egros IMO.
