My Return to the Buck Fold

To say I've had bad luck with Bucks in the past is an understatement.
For the longest time I wanted a 110 because I loved the way it looked.
But I wanted it in premium steel and nicer handles. I finally found their "Custom Shop" program
and I was in. Long story short, I went through 4 of them. Each had QC issues. Some went back for
fixes, some I just sold outright. Eventually all 4 of them were sold at a loss and I licked my wounds. Well,
recently the 110 bug hit me again. I'd been reading that Buck's QC had improved so I ordered another custom 110.
I knew it would be a while, and it would mostly be a safe queen due to its size. So, to tie me over during the wait, I ordered
a drop point 112 in S30V off of Flea Bay. I just received it last week and to say I was blown away by it is an understatement.
Fit, finish, quality is virtually perfect. All it took was a bit of flushing out the buffing swarf from the innards with WD-40 and a few
drops of KPL in the pivot and it was SWEET!. Perfect lock up, perfect centering, backspring is perfectly flush with the frame, handles
and bolsters have smooth transitions, and to top it all off, it came scalpel sharp with even bevels. Oh, and it looks bitchin' with the nickel
silver bolsters contrasting against the black ebony wood. All this for a very reasonable price.
I was thoroughly relieved to see this quality on a Buck. It's been the only thing I've carried lately. And I plan on using the crap out of it!
I'm not a big fan of hanging knives off my belt so I just slip it in my pocket. Don't know what I'll do when the 110 comes.

Glad you got a good one. After not buying any new Bucks for many years, I been on a roll recently & bought two new ones in the past couple months. These are regular production knives, but the QC on them couldn't be better.

As for carrying them, it comes down to personal preference of course, but I don't really like carrying heavier knives, like a 110 or 112 in my pockets. I find that it's no more bother getting it out of a belt sheath, than it is digging a knife out of my pocket. Sometimes even less.

Congratulations on getting a good example of the 112. I really like the 112 but is larger than I like to carry everyday. Belt or pocket carry is a very personal thing. Enjoy whatever way works for you.

EDIT TO ADD: I am glad to hear that the fit and finish, basically the quality of the knives coming out of the custom shop has improved. I have a custom 501 from several years ago that leaves a lot to be desired but it is functional. I have been considering ordering a new 501 from the custom shop. My last 2 new Bucks is a Larrin 501/stealth run #3 and the Dec. 2023 model 500 are VERY close to perfect! I have always assumed that the special runs and knife of the month run were came out of the custom knife department. Does anyone know if that is true?

I keep a $30 Buck 110 lite in every field pack I have as a basic camping knife/backup blade.
Carried a 110 in the Army for many years and didn't buy any expensive new ones until I saw they were making stealth runs of various models in Magnacut.
Now I've got a 501, 119, and 112 in Magnacut. All 3 of those came off the line just fine, just waiting to finally get in on a 110 in Magnacut and I'll probably be done with Bucks for a while.
Also have a custom 110 in S30v w/silver bolsters just because I wanted one with a more universal-use drop point blade. The fit and finish on that one is immaculate.
The 112 goes on the belt on the opposite side from my Demko Freereign in Magnacut when I go tromping in the woods. Certain cutting tasks just don't require a 5" fixed blade.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've all said that a time or three. 🤣
I made a plan for this year.

Im chasing 2 knives. originally was chasing 3, but I was able to get one already.
I have 2 customs being made. Still putting together & shipping materials at this point.
I have 2 2024 knives on order. 1 user and 1 looker. I may add 1 more to that

Otherwise I am trying to resist the shiny things. I figure there will be 2 or 3 I will feel the urge to pick up....

Welcome back. I took a sabbatical from Buck when I was in my pocket clip phase. Now I carry a 110 or 112 every day. I find that some watch pockets are a good fit that keeps them handy and out of the way.
