So here is my 1970's vintage ‘Rigid’ USA made double edged boot dagger with leather sheath. The knife is a classic style dagger of carbon tool steel, linen micarta handle scales.

I bought this knife new at Knott’s Berry Farm (Buena Park CA) in 1972. At the time they had a cool knife shop there and I laid down $20 bucks for it—a lot for me in 1972! I tried carrying it in some cowboy boots that I had but it was super uncomfortable. So it was relegated to letter opener status.

I used to carry it in a brief case for letter opening and in the mid 70’s took it through LAX and on a United flight to New York. I was pulled aside and had to explain that, “Hey—it’s just a letter opener.” I had to declare it but they let me through. How times have changed.
