For Christmas I bought myself an RMJ Mini Jenny Wren. This is my first tomahawk.

I have only played with it a little so far. I hacked at a dead pine tree and an old fence. As expected the Mini Jenny is small and light so it takes some work to cut when compared larger hatchets. The front edge came shaving sharp.

I hit a few nails when hacking at the fence post. The edge rolled slightly and had a very small chip. I was able to straighten it back out. I did not spend enough time to take the edge down to completely get rid of the chip. The lesson is don't hit nails.

The sheath is what makes the hawk worth the money in my opinion. On the low ride belt loops it just hangs off your belt and flexes out of the way when you move or site down. Sheath ejection is easy and very satisfying.

I would recommend RMJ to anyone who wants a solid hawk/sheath package. Feel free to ask any questions.

Pictures for good measure.

Those mini Jenny's look pretty cool. I have the regular Jenny, just wasn't sure how less handle was going to help her out? I'm sure I'll end up with one eventually though,,,

Please post some in hand pics if you have them!!!

Do you intend this to be a woods tool or a martial hawk?

I have a Loggerhead Shrike and its a beast as a woods tool. I am sure it would do the job of a weapon as just as well though.

Unfortunately I don't have a full size Jenny to compare the Mini to, I wish I did. I can say that the short handle makes it very easy to carry, even seated in a vehicle. It would aid in concealability, if that is your thing. However I do believe the mini has less cutting power because of the shorter handle.

Mostly I will use it as a woods tool and demo during home renovation project. I am sure the Mini Jenny would make a great weapon. It is a fast light hawk and in my eyes just looks bad ass.

I'm really liking this for a backpacking axe. Looks really light and useable. I'm curious how 80crv will compare to their 4140!! Ive used my wren really hard, and am very impressed by it.

As requested, in the hand picks. Unfortunately the lighting is bad and I am not out in the woods.

Have you used this for any type of chopping or wood work? I'm kinda stuck on this, and am contemplating selling one of my other rmjs for one of these.

It is very small and compact. I can easily take 1" diameter limbs of trees. I chopped at 4" diameter tree down for fire wood next season. I was able to do it, but it took some effort, it was much easier with 15" handled hatchet. But I think it weighs 3 times as much. I easily made feather sticks, the mini wren is sharp. I think it fills the roll of wanting to have chopping ability, but don't want the weight of a heavy hatchet to large knife. Next time I go in the woods I think I will bring the Mini Wren and Bird & Trout style knife.

Thanks. The standard Jenny wren has been my go to woods hawk for a while now. It chops above its weight class for sure. I think I need to handle one of these minis. I may buy one, then sell it if it's not what I really need. Thanks for the response. Looking forward to more reviews.

Woods use, breaking down animals, splitting pelvic bones or breast bones. And all around fun!

I do like that mini, it looks to be a very good hunting woods type of little hatchet. Thanks for posting the nice pics fellas.
