It's been my EDC for a about three years. About a two weeks ago I felt like carrying a HEST 2.0 and BM Barrage instead. Well the Rukus is back in my pocket, so long HEST! I can't find a replacement for this knife. I do like my Adamas and Contego though.

The Rukus is an incredibly good knife. Pretty darn big, but the huge, 4-plus inch blade, coupled with the axis lock, is as nimble as any knife I have. I suppose, like the Spyderco Manix (the real Manix), it was too big (more than 10 inches open) to capture large sales numbers and so was dropped. Too bad. When I need a big folder, the Rukus does the trick. And it's a joy to use.

The only suitable replacement I have found for the rukus is another rukus. It's my most favorite production piece ever.

Have you tried the Lum Onslaught? The Rukus is in a league of its own -- and I'll never sell mine -- but the Onslaught is just as big. Actually, the blade is just a touch larger and the handle a bit smaller. What I like about the Onslaught is that the blade is very thin and the shoulder width of the edge is very narrow. It is a beautiful slicer.

The blade of the Rukus is heavier, so it flies open easily under its own weight, but the Onslaught is still an axis lock. I've been able to put a better edge on its 154Cm than the Rukus' S30V.

Anyway, thanks to the OP for standing tall for an under-appreciated classic.

I've got one NIB and have been thinking the last couple days about breaking it out.

(This after having received a Griptillian a few days ago and realizing how much
I like the Axis lock).

I see people sometimes complain about the pocket clip.

Have you guys found it to be a non-issue, or have you modded
the knives?

Also are the wood scales out there to find?

Don't know if I would change them anyway, the micarta is sweet.

It is a beautiful knife.

The Rukus is my all time favorite as well. The only thing I like as much is the Mini Rukus when im feeling like adding some diversity. I hate they are so hard to find these days. I would like to have a back up.

I like the pocket clip. Some of my jeans have a bit of fake leather over the pocket, making it difficult to use for some of my knives. The Rukus takes the extra thickness in stride.

I have both the regular and small Onslaughts. They are Great slicers, and have their place for sure. For some reason the Rukus just speaks to me. Though I may carry the Contego for a month or so.

I feel the same about my 710s (of which I now have three). I didn't realise how much bigger the Rukus was than the 710 until seeing the images in this thread.

I had a Mini Rukus (615) but sold it to raise money for a Hinderer XM-18. Love the Hinderer but have always regretted selling the 615. It ate away at me for months until I saw one for sale last week on the exchange and I snapped it up. Didn't have to think about it. The prices on EBay are ridiculous. Keep your eyes peeled on the knife exchange and you can get lucky like I did! I paid $255.
