My rusty buck knife

Agreed, this is a review, at least show us how it got rusty or put some good using pics so we can at least have some fun. I clicked on it wanting to see what it looked like. Oh well.

2 posters in one week, that signed up just to bash Buck. Well now.....

You're knife was rusty because you neglected it. Just because it was made in China, you decided to buy it knowing this. Buck has moved most of it's line back to the USA, so look for a new one.

Does Buck even make any knives out of China?

Yea, but I can't see where the market for them is. When you can buy a US-made Buck for under $40, the only purpose for an import version is for stocking stuffer gifts or those guys (like the OP) that just need a knife to open a box and then throw it into the bottom of a tool drawer. And who would pay less than $20 and expect much of the knife??

I did a quick search, around 50 models/variations of models are made in China

FWIW in October 2011 Chuck Buck stated that approximately 13% of Bucks product line was made overseas. I know they have discontinued and or brought some of that 13% to Idaho so they may be a lot closer to 100% production by now which is the companies stated goal.

If you do search for Buck knife on the big auction site you will get a huge number of hits that are fake and or copies of Buck knives coming out of China. Many are models Buck has never made while others are just poorly executed copies. Without doing some research a person could believe that Buck is making a lot more knives overseas than they are.

Its not the steel's fault you can't take proper care of it.

Well in his defense. I own a Buck redpoint which honestly hasn't seen any use. It was an impulse purchase ;) . It actually stained (spots, primarily on the spine of the blade) just sitting in a closed cabinet in it's original packaging. Plastic bag and box. I took it out a while back and it kind of made me scratch my head. All my knives, including some pretty cheap crap, is kept in that cabinet but this is the only one that stained on me like that. I'm on holiday atm but I'll put up some pics when I get home.

Although there are plenty of affordable USA Buck options here's a hint: Even if that knife said USA on the blade, I'm guessing it would still be rusty right now. Because country of origin almost certainly has nothing whatsoever to do with why this knife rusted.

Not that we'd know that for sure since, y'know, there's no pics. Or a review. Or anything.

Buck knives are built to last. Cleaning and caring for your knife will maintain performance and enhance the life your knife. > Just saying.

It’s not rust, it’s character!

Note: A Chinese made knife, no matter the brand, is a commodity and not an investment … take care of it, use it up, replace it.

Nets, your Redpoint is Buck's model 753 of the china contract. It's even titanium coated... Are you sure it's rust on the blade? To the original posted I can't say as we don't know the model number or conditions. DM

Yes, Buck contracts some designs from China...ALL of them use stainless steel, none use plain carbon steel.

If it rusts, it's from neglect.

Y'all are being too harsh on the OP. There's a lot to be said for brevity.
