This is the first scandi friction folder I have made, so I`m going to be using it as my EDC, and thought I would do a little review. The specs are as follows:

7 1/4" open length
3" x 1/8" blade of O1 steel
1/8" thick tan canvas micarta scales (3/8" overall thickness)
1/4" stainless pivot pin, with 8-32 stainless allen bolts

About 10 years ago, we had a willow tree come down in an icestorm. I cut the remains down. Still, every year, we get shoots coming up where the tree was. I`ve been letting them grow for about 2 years before I cut them down again. By this time some of them are around 1 1/2" diameter, great for hiking sticks. I usually let them dry out for a year or so before using them. This particular one was 1 1/2" at one end, tapering to about 1" at the other end, and 5' long. I decided to shave all the bark off of it with my knife.

Here it is cleaned up.

Got a nice pile of shavings.

Afterwards it would still shave hair from my arm.

Making some sun tea while I`m goofing around.

Sliced some summer sausage and cheese to put on crackers to go with my sun tea.

Using the inside of the protruding latch make a great firesteel striker! Had to take this in a dark room to see the sparks.

Used the shavings along with some PJCB`s to make this fire using my firesteel and knife.

I`m going to be using this knife exclusively for a while to see how it works out for me on a daily basis. My Victorinox Soldier is going to get jealous! I`ll be updating this review as it gets more use.

That's a nice design! I like the scandi idea on a folder. I've thought about doing it but I just can't seem to get a good scandi grind no matter how hard I try. I've pretty much given up on it.:(

I like that one a lot, very useful design indeed.

Edited to add: That would be kick-ass on a piggy-back sheath of a larger knife, like a hudson bay or something.
