I won this 752 in a GAW from seas165 seas165 thank you again! And at first I wasn’t sure because it isn’t quite my style. Not so good for whittling in other words. But I love schrade history, and the history of the industrial revolution. And never having had an example of this pattern or style I figured I could at least try it before making a decision.

So I got it and started playing with it. It appears unused. The first thing I noticed is it is slim and long enough though that it fits me okay.

Then I noticed the small blade, when closing, sometimes would catch its kick on the tip of the large blade. I thought this through carefully and decided I could remedy that with careful tuning. It closes as it should now and without altering the knife in a way a collector would be able to tell.

Anyways. I was setting there thinking about it and I was kinda comparing it to my late moms half Congress. And then it dawned on me. Mom would love this little knife.

I imagined saying, I’m not sure what I think about it, that I might regift it on the knife forum one day. Then I could nearly hear mom saying “don’t do that, it’s a neat little knife, if you don’t want it, I’ll take it”. That’s just the way mom would have ended up with it too if she was still here. She would have eyed it, and how could I have resisted gifting it to her? So I fell in love with it because I know mom would have loved it. It’s slimness, it’s size, it’s useful for all the things an old lady would do. And it’s a schrade, and that means quality. So I in a way imagine it as moms knife now. It’s coming up on a year since mom passed, and I’ve been thinking a lot of her. I just thought I’d share, thanks for listening to a sentimental rambling post.

Post script. I got all teary eyed and forgot to ask.

Can anyone tell me what year range was this tang stamp from?

I assume it’s carbon steel?

I love knives like this, one of my all time favorites is a Camillus advertising pen made for Monroe HDW.
I bought a 2nd one off Ebay to give away because I love it so much, and I almost bought a whole collection off Ebay so I could have most of the years ( from the 60's till Camillus closed they had them every year and always dated on the handle)
They were pretty much sealed all NOS, price was right but the timing wasn't and It's gone.

My limited knowledge of Schrade is that SS blades are SCHRADE + , but I wouldn't be surprised if there were exceptions.

I am so happy you like it and that you have made such a meaningful connection with it. As far as i know it is carbon. I probably have 10 examples of the pattern in different stages of use and they are all carbon. Its really cool to see the slight variations in things on them like swedges and the finish on the handles. Ill post up a few pics tomorrow.

I often find myself putting one in my watch pocket and they really punch above their weight class. Solid little knives yet light and slim.

I believe that stamp dates it as post-1973. The memory, however, is timeless...

I love the old aluminum advertising knives! I have examples made by Ulster, New York Knife Co, And multiple generations of Schrade!! They all have carbon steel that takes a nice edge, but sometimes the pen blade binds or is only half on the spring. They are the perfect size and weight IMO for watch pocket carry.

I had a hard time getting the pen blade sharp. I ended up resetting the angle some on a course stone before it would take anything like the approx 15 degree angle I aim for. But the spear blade took a fast and keen edge on a soft Arkansas stone.
