Here is my meager collection. I have a few 125OT's, 25OT's, 8OT's, and several others. I love Schrades 1095. And most of my collection has that steel. But there are a few with the stainless. I did forget to add my Grand Dads Old Timer 8OT limited edition. It's in it's display box and unused. Most of the others are used, and loved. I have a few minty scrimshaw's too. I really enjoy those. There are a few Schrade Waldens in there as well. I love my Schrades!!

Some of my 125's have a bit of blade play. Is there anyone on the forums who could help me by fixing the blade play on those?

Nice collection mley1. I would like to see your Grand-Dad's 8OT - I have always liked the Schrade 4" knives. Ken

Thanks. I'll have to get some pics of it. It has brass bolsters, green delrin, the liners and springs are engraved. It has the special GDOT badge and tang stamp. It's a nice piece.

Sounds like it is the Big Brother of this one.

Yup. That's what it looks like. I'm away from home. But when I get back I will post a pic or two. I also noticed my 3OT was not in the pic. I gotta find that little gem. It's a sweet little knife like my 12OT.

Nice bunch of knives you have. I am also fond of folding hunters and Frontier knives.

I just scored a mint in the box 125ot. Still has the original dried up oil on it from the factory. Got a great deal on it. One question, use it or don't use it? I love these knives. And I love using them. I've been wanting a real nice one to use. Now that I have one, in the back of my mind I'm wondering if I should keep it mint, or use and and enjoy it. I've never been much of a collector. And I do like it when I pull out an old Schrade and one of my buddies asks where he can get one. Plus the steel is very enjoyable to use. What do y'all think? Use the mint one? Or keep it in collectible condition?

My opinion? Your knife, your decision. They made a lot of them and many are still out there in every condition imaginable. If you decide to keep it mint, find another near mint to use. That is what I would do and have done in the past.

I have a few others. Only two are in pretty good condition. And I have one I would consider a beater. It's been heavily cleaned, buffed, pitted and has lots of blade play. Then I have one that's in good shape, but just has some blade play. I hate using knives with blade play, even if it's just a little. These are still safe to use. I just hate blade play. And that's one reason I looked for a reasonably priced mint one. It's nearly perfect.

I believe I'll put the new one into use. And, have some fun watching the patina develop. All the others had most of their patina before I acquired them.

I would still like to fix the blade play in the others. I don't have a nice shop, with tools, to work in. And I've not ever taken a slip join apart. So I have no clue how to fix them. I'll need some help in that regard.

These are the three missing from the earlier photos. My new mint 125OT, my GDOT 8OT(which is black, not green as I remembered), and my little 3OT. These three are some of my favorites.

Please forgive my horrid photography. Between my lack of skill and using an iPhone my pics leave a lot to be desired.

If there is no bolster pin showing, even in varying angles in the light, the knife was constructed with the patented Dave Swinden "key" system, and the blade play would not be easily corrected by traditional methods. If the pin shows, it can be rapped, which swells the pin in its hole and tightens the joint. Take it easy. The older knives (approximately pre-1960) probably don't have the Swinden system, and some of the later knives do not, either. I like the "hunter" patterns very well as users, also. The "open stock" version of the 25OT (2 blades) was called the 225H (h for lanyard hole) and is also found on the popular auction site in great numbers. If you are patient you can buy the Schrade hunters for a very reasonable price, and you can then have a both nice user and your great keeper as well. Although there are dozens of variations of the two-blade version, dating back into the 1940s, the single blade liner-lock type has fewer variations: the 225OT, which is the Old Timer, the 127UH, which is the Uncle Henry stainless, and a few special editions, such as for Ducks Unlimited, and a number of stainless ones with faux "scrimshaw" on ivoroid DuPont Delrin covers. The pre-1960 knives had bone or celluloid covers, and most had saber-ground rather than flat-ground blades. The covers on these early knives were fastened with 4 to 5 pins (plus the spring pin) instead of the later method of fewer pins. All in all I have had great satisfaction collecting and using this large hunter pattern of Schrade knives. Enjoy, and, btw, welcome to this forum. There is a search function, if you have not already found it, and here are 2 other nice Schrade research sources:

Thanks for the great info. I believe mine all probably have Swinden key construction. Since it'll be pretty difficult to fix the blade play, I guess those two will become my beater knives. The are still solid enough to use. They just have a bit of blade play. But, if there is a way, I'd sure love to fix them.

I've done a bit of searching here. And I've been a lurker on this particular forum for while. Lots of good info. I appreciate any and all advice y'all can give me.

Here is my lastest Frontier that I just got off of the bay. Still waiting on this beauty to get in. All it need is just a little polishing. I had to have this knife because one it's a scrimshaw & two there is a limited edition Mustang SVO on the back side.
