First, Hello to everybody. This is my first post. I more or less registered here to talk about my knife.
I am retired from the New york State Department of Corrections. Around or about 1997 I was presented with a Schrade Scrimshaw 515SC with schief from then Superintendent Bob Kuhlman. The knife has a picture of the Sullivan Correctional Facility showing the wall and tower and some etching of the sky/clouds and below " SCF EST1986". On the blade itself has the words " Sullivan Correctional Facility ". On the medal hinge part is stamped " 25 years DOCS" and above that are my initials. Is this something unique?

Hi ! Welcome to the Schrade Collector's forum! It would be nice to see some pictures of your knife. We never get tired of seeing new-to-us variations of Schrade knives!

Imperial Schrade was noted for community involvement over the years and produced many limited edition runs of scrimshaw knives for a varity of charities' fundraisers, clubs and organizations. Correctional facilities were no exception. I have no information as to how many knives like yours were made, but it was likely a small number, 200 or less. Quite possibly far less. I have seen them made for other NY State prisons though. And various law enforcemnt and fire departments. It sounds like you have a nice keepsake there!

You can upload the pictures from your computer to a photo hosting site like Tinypic.com or photo bucket. Then copy/paste the

Thank you Codger and edbeau for you help. Yes the knife has been in my dresser drawer since I got it.

Very nice! Perhaps Eric or Larry can dig into their files and find some ordering information on it. Or one of the former Schrade employees will remember it. There is still a small group of them engaged in making knives in the old factory in Walden. We don't bother them directly with our questions, but one of our members ocassionaly bends their ears.
