Someone that knows better will probably chime in but that wood with the striations looks like curly/flame maple to me...hard to tell as it looks like your white balance may be off a little? If it's reddish it might be cherry?

Either way it reminds me of the top of a les paul guitar body and is purty

In your group pic the middle left and bottom left side stuff looks like it might have some nice spalting?

i'm not a genius with the camera. they are a bit shaky. sorry about that. i am thinking almost all of is maple, becuase it looks like some other curly maple that I have. if i'm wrong though, please tell me.

looks like flamed and quilted maple mostly. Not sure of the bottom pic though, color is kinda hard to see. looks good though!

I would say the consensus is good with maple hehe. I thought flame maple as soon as I saw it. My father built a grandfather clock and trimmed it in flame and birdseye maple and gave me the leftovers.

does anyone have any idea on the orange wood? it looks like osage, but has a lot of black lines running through it and seems darker.

Can you take a daytime pic outside tomorrow? Daylight makes a big difference in color. Does is smell strongly when you sand it?

I will work on a daytime pic. I sanded a scrap, and it has no smell. however, it was a fencepost, and so it may have been treated.

My cousin gave me some of the same kind of wood, and it is the BEST wood ever. The type of wood is called "FREE" wood.

I think #7 is lace wood. From Australia maybe?? It's not super hard but it is super pretty.

I agree it looks like lacewood but if it was a fencepost I doubt it. Bose De Arc was use for fence post quite a bit. Depends on how hard it is. Lacewood will dent easily with your fingernail. Osage is very dense and oily. I have not worked it so I cannot attest to the smell.

I have walnut, juniper, maple burn, curly maple, quilted maple, and some unknown orange wood. it is very hard, and 36 grit sandpaper does almost nothing to it when used by hand.

these are the best pics I could get up close. one of the slightly wetted wood and one of the end grain.

I think it looks a little like teak thats been ripped at an angle. Im sorry i couldnt be more help if i had it in hand it would be easier to guess. Plus teak has a strong smell when sanded, its kinda nice too.

Red Palm measures an average of 1900 on the Janka hardness scale. According to info on palm, the hardness can vary greatly from the center to the outer edge with it being softer in the center. In comparison, afzelia ranks 1810 and bubinga ranks 1980. Not extremely hard, but probably could benefit from a CA finish.
