My brand new Sebenza 21 Small Drop Point finally arrived! NICE!

I do have to say though it is really tight to open and close. The lock bar is really strong and deploying the blade is pretty tough with one hand.
All things considered I am very happy and everything I have read suggests it will loosen up overtime with use.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to loosen the blade other than “Just using it” please let me know.

You could make sure theres some grease/oil on the pivot area. Otherwise you really do just gotta break it in.

It looks really nice. I hope it serves you well!

Are you applying pressure to the lock bar when trying to open it? My girlfriend has a tough time opening frame locks one handed because of this.

Edit: Just to add - The small plain jane Sebenza 21 was about the only knife I carried for a year straight. Awesome knife. One that you really start to appreciate more and more the more you use it. Enjoy!

Thank you for the response.
Have you heard of NanoLube Nano-Oil 10 Weight.
Can I use third party lubs or should I just stick to the OEM one?

Yah ive heard of it, some people love it, I havent used it so cant comment. You can use any oil you want! Ive heard good things about the chris reeve grease though. I use a clear grease by "battle born" in my manual flippers thats really nice.

Ive even used simple sewing machine oil, and works just fine.

Other oils will definitely affect the action, but idk if it would make that big of a difference in actually breaking the detent. If you try different lubes, maybe try a combination of the other lube and the OEM grease together. And in general, less is more in my experience

I’d stick with the CRK grease. It will break in, and once you figure out the sweet spot on opening it with your thumb it will be oh so nice! Mine is smooth as glass.

Mind your finger placement. I can't keep mine off of the lockbar on a small sebenza to save my life so I always have the same issue.

Congrats! Use it, your thumb will callus, the pivot will break in and all will be well!

Congrats! Great EDC. Like others have said, you can use any lube you want but I’d stick with the CRK grease while breaking it in. Also, keep pressure off lock bar when opening. Make sure to plant the meat of your thumb into the stud and open with even, consistent force. When new, CRKs are very smooth and hydraulic. Thumb flicks will only bring pain.

Check out the CRK sub-forum for more info.

Congrats on the great score!

Mine came pretty dry, and cleaning and lubrication worked great to smooth out the action.
Mine also had minor lock stick, which subsided with the application of Sharpie on the blade tang.

Hope you enjoy the knife.

I might recommend using a toothpick to make sure there is a tiny bit of CRK grease along the detent ball path. But yeah, that initial pop out of the detent hole sometimes requires both the knife and your thumb to get used to one another.

If it gets uncomfortable, do the hard thing and rest by carrying something else for a day or two. You two will have a long history together; don’t get frustrated by rushing it. ;)

Congratulations, BTW.

Give her to me. After a decade of use, she'll come around and I'll return her.

Third party lubes will not hurt it, but I suggest using the CRK grease or something similar. IMO it is going to work best and last the longest. They use a perforated washer on all the newer knives that holds some grease.
It will break in just fine with time, so don't resort to any of the more drastic measures, like polishing or sanding the washers.
and has been mentioned make sure you are not pressing down on the lockbar
