This is my Large 21 Micarta Sebenza. I have owned and used this folder for a few years now. I have to say after extensive use ranging from kitchen duty to verging on abuse, this knife has taken it all and smiled.

The steel on this knife is S30V. A while back I put my own edge on the knife with my Kalimazoo 1x42 belt sander. I ended with a 320 3M grinding belt and finished/stropped the edge with a leather belt loaded with green compound.

I have found that the S30V takes the best edge with the green compound. With white compound it will become even more polished but it leaves the edge lacking that extra 'slicing bite into flesh' that I prefer.

In the couple of years since I originally established my edge with the grinding belt I have done nothing but touch up the edge with the leather belt loaded with green compound. It just keeps getting better and better;)

This knife has been in saltwater environments (and used extensively there:cool:) It has been flipped open by friends with lesser morals when I wasn't expecting it:eek::yawn: I have used this knife to do tasks (safely:)) that I exerted all of my strength and I expected to have damaged the knife (I needed to do what I did with it:p). Anyhow, I have USED THIS KNIFE.

I want to say that I still feel the Sebenza has the best overall design of any folding knife IMHO. This goes with saying, for my uses and tastes and my statement in no way goes against anyone else's favorite design (s) :D

Thank you,

Kevin

I hear ya', brother. No matter what "next great knife" I buy, I always end up going back to my Sebs.
There is good reason that they are the standard by which all others are measured!

I've only had my sebenza for a few weeks instead of a few years, but last week, I had to cut something where I was bearing down on the handle as hard as I could take and pressing down on the spine with my other hand to help out. My sebenza normally locks up at about 65% and expected it to be at 100% and hard to unlock after that. Well, it was at maybe 70-75% and just as easy to unlock as ever. I was very impressed.:thumbup::cool:

Looking forward to when I can tell tales of how my Seb has been my constant companion for xx years. :D

Thanks for sharing,

This !!!! +1
Awsome pic too!!! That well used blade just looks great :D

Thanks for the comments. I realize everyone looks for something different in a knife and I in no way intend to take away from other's experiences. This is only one Sebenza owned by one person. Luckily, I am able to post a positive overview of my usage of the knife.

More pictures - Here is an old pic of the three that I own (two of which I also carried, used and sharpened but put in the safe when the Regular Sebenza was discontinued)

Compared to the picture above in my original post you can see over time no change has been made to the profile of the edge but it has become more polished:thumbup:

Thanks again for taking the time to read my opinion.

Also, to explain further on why I chose a convex edge on my 21 I am going to repost the pic from above and tell what sharpening process I tried with each:

Sebenza left - Large Regular w/Swedge, sharpened only with Edge Pro.

Sebenza middle - Large 21 Micarta, belt sander.

Sebenza right - Large Regular, sharpened only on bench stones.

Of the three techniques the edge from the belt sander held up the best and was by far the easiest to maintain.

Again, this is all my personal experience.

Loving the pictures brother!

Thanks for your post and pictures!
Great to read about the extensive use of a Sebenza and positive rewards to owning a CRK!

The periodic updates of how one feels about their user Sebenza really inspires confidence in the utility and longevity of these finely crafted pocket knives!

I got my small Regular back from CRK a few months ago - first trip since it was made in 1997, and it's had a good bit of use. These are not just collectibles or ornaments.

Nice photos. I love sebbies and have been using and acquiring them since 1997.
