Now that I have a few good kitchen knives I figured I should protect them with sayas.
My first attempt was made without looking at a real saya so it turned out shaped wrong and really chunky.
It was a practice saya on a junk knife that was in my work shop.

On the second one I looked at a real saya to reference shape and thickness. duhhhhh
Still a few things that are not quite right, but a lot better. .......I think.

Hopefully I will get better as I make more for my other knives.

That makes me lust after that knife even more. How thin are you making the spacers? I have been attempting a few sheaths too, but using a paddle sander to hollow out the cavity, I am starting to think a spacer may be a better way to go.

I think it looks fantastic. I like how you're using such incredible pieces for practice!

What kind of construction are you using for these?

I am not doing the traditional way where you carve out the cavity because I don't have the chisels.
What I have been doing is 2 pieces about 1/4" thick with a spacer about 1" thick that I cut to fit the knife profile.
Here are a couple more attempts since the 1st two.
