** edit to add sheath pics**

This took a long time to finish since my first effort back in Nov.
I got it back from heat treat a few weeks ago and struggled with finish grinding until last week. Did a few marathon sessions in the last week to finally get it finished Monday night at about 2:30 in the morning.

It's 1095, about 3/16" thick. 8 1/2" guard to tip with a 14" OAL.
Handle is spalted maple.
guard is mild steel cold blued as is the 3/16" pin.

The heat treat was by Ed Storch of Storch Knives again and this time I was able to figure out how to pull out the hamon with cycles of ferric chloride etch and polishing with 2000x and soapy water. (thanks to an article by Don Fogg)
This wasn't clay coated so I am happy that it came out so nicely.

To etch my name I improvised. I used Canadapost heavy packing tape and a dremel burr to sign my name. The tape provided the barrier and created enough drag to be able to sign without the burr skating on the surface.
Etched with ferric chloride and regular 9v battery.

Sheath work is underway but I felt like posting photos of the knife first.:)

Stuart you've done really well with this piece by any measure and exceptionally well for your second knife. Really a solid piece.

Looking forward to the shath.

Roger

nice work buddy!

You are a knifemaker my friend, no matter if it is only your second.
Very nice, like your mark as well.

That's a great looking knife. I love the hamon that you managed to get on that. I often don't like clay coated hamons because the transition line can look too drawn on and not natural, so this more natural and cloud like hamon is beautiful to me.

Great job Stu ! I love the hamon. I have had the pleasure of handling this beauty, and must say that Stu is one heck of artist and craftsman. Just wait till you all see Stu's third piece ... Stuart has been particularly bitchy at work recently, maybe its those late nights !

Thanks a lot everyone. I really do appreciate it. I have stumbled into what I think is my true passion in life in knife and sheath making so it means a great deal to hear such kind words.

-except you Shanto... I'll talk to you tomorrow :p

I hope to make the sheath later this evening.

Thanks everyone. I'm really appreciative of the kind comments.

Here's the sheath. I finished it up late last night.
