Hey guys!

So you know that I got a kershaw RAM and love it.:D

I think I am going to order a kershaw 1740 NR-G or the kershaw scallion with polymide handle (sweaty hands), or maybe the junkyard dog. I heard good things about these.

Any opinions on them would be helpful. Also, how's sanding the trac tec underneath the pocket clip for the 1740 so that it wont be abrasive to my clothing? Is that possible? I do not want to harm my clothing.

Which would you guys go for? the 1740 Nr-g or the scallion or junkyard?

Thanks again!

P.S.

Cant believe it is my second knife in one week that I am buying:eek:

Seems you're pretty set on the 1740. The scallion is a nice knife, but in many ways different. Speed Safe Assisted Opening, Steel, Blade Shape [recurve], flipper & thumb studs.

The Ener-g and the JYD are both excellent flippers. If you are getting the smaller version (and all black G-10 model) of the Ener-g, it will not hurt your pockets--you can always bend the clip out slightly (what I did to mine to accommodate shorts).

The small Ener-g I have gets so sharp, it will whittle hair free hand.

I had an ener-g2,bigger version of original,it was a nice knife but I traded it because i knew I woulda never used it or carried it. It flipped kinda nice, unassisted though and required some wrist action. the handle inserts were nice, good enough for a good grip but won't really mess up your pants

Im not a big Kershaw guy, but I have heard nothing but good things about em. If you are looking for other knife suggestions id be happy to contribute :D. In anycase, its good to see your enjoying your new toys. Have a great day.

The JYD was an impressive knife as I saw it in the store. Beefy. A little much for what I personally prefer most of the time, though. But if I wanted a knife that size, the JYD would be among the considerations for sure.

I'll nominate a 551 Griptilian. About $70. 3.5" blade of 154CM. 3.3 ounces. Axis lock. Benchmade quality/warranty. Sweet! And still quite reasonable as an EDC.

It's still quite thick and plastic-y. All of the people I know 'round here who carry a grip have shredded pockets as well--the OP doesn't want it.

I thought I might find it a bit thick, but in the day I've carried it, that isn't the case for me. And it's so light weight.

Though the handle is plastic-y, it works very well, looks good, and the feather weight is the upside of not having the solid metal feel. But all choices have trades offs.

As for the pocket shredding, I do have some concerns about that, however.

The 960 Osborne and 707 Sequel are great smaller choices which are light, have 3" ish blades and negligible pocket shredding. I love my 960. And a 707 is sure to join it one of these days.

Shallot is another good one that is unlikely to abrade the pocket.

I like my Scallion and NRG about the same. For an EDC I think that the NRG is a little more comfortable in the pocket, and the G10 is great (not too grippy to get out of a pocket, but enough texture to stay in the hand well). The scallion is slick with sweaty hands. The NRG would be easier to sharpen as well. As always, my short answer is 'get both'.

shall-ot shall-ot shall-ot shall-ot shall-ot

(I'll admit it... I want a shallot for myself!) ;)
