Well I've upgraded to "Knifemaker" as I've finished my 2nd knife and am so enthralled by this that I will be making many many more.
This took a long time to finish since my first effort back in Nov.
I got it back from heat treat a few weeks ago and struggled with finish grinding until last week. Did a few marathon sessions in the last week to finally get it finished Monday night at about 2:30 in the morning.
It's 1095, about 3/16" thick. 8 1/2" guard to tip with a 14" OAL.
Handle is spalted maple.
guard is mild steel cold blued as is the 3/16" pin.
The heat treat was by Ed Storch of Storch Knives again and this time I was able to figure out how to pull out the hamon with cycles of ferric chloride etch and polishing with 2000x and soapy water. (thanks to an article by Don Fogg)
This wasn't clay coated so I am happy that it came out so nicely.
To etch my name I improvised. I used Canadapost heavy packing tape and a dremel burr to sign my name. The tape provided the barrier and created enough drag to be able to sign without the burr skating on the surface.
Etched with ferric chloride and regular 9v battery.
Thanks for looking.
And here's the sheath:
I finished it up late last night.
