I purchased a Mnandi right when they came out. At the time I had always wanted a Chris Reeve knife, but just never stepped up to the plate, so to speak. So I plopped down my $350 and got a nice standard inlay Mnandi. To say the least I was more than happy with the knife. The craftsmanship, the precision, the design, it was a great knife. To make a long story short, about a year and a half after getting the knife I lost it. Went out in the woods one night, just roaming around, and when I got back, gone! (a low point in my life)
That was over a year ago, and I finally got around to getting a replacement. It just arrived today. A genuine Chris Reeve Mnandi in african black wood, and my second. Damn it is a gorgeous knife! I didn't think that any knife would be better than the first, but this one certainly is. I guess this post is somewhat pointless, but if one lesson is to be taken from it, it is to keep your knives secure when romping though the woods because $350 is a nice chunk, and the Reeve waiting list is hovering around 3 months! Lets hope there’s no need for a third.

Hey Nan:

I know all about losing CRK knives. a couple of weeks ago I lost my large wood inlay sebenza in my office. I was depressed to say the least. I was trying to take my mind off it one night by watching "Once Upon a Time in Mexico", and when Banderas opened his guitar/weapons cache, there was a folding knife attached and I....just got even more upset!! LOL!

Thank God someone turned it in! Took them a good 5 days to do it though, but I'm just glad I have it.

So yes, I know what it's like to lose a CRK, if only for 5 days.

I too just got an mnandi, with the tamboti inlays, and I LOVE this piece. it goes everywhere with me now. I was so crazy for it that I bought another one (this time in african blackwood) from Bobby Branton. It's on its way, so I'm really looking forward to it.

glad to hear you were able to finally replace your mnandi!

Nice post. I like to hear stories with good endings. I have lost nice knives in the past and I know it sucks. I have 2 Sebenzas (A small CGG Stars and Stripes and a Small Classic with Micarta inlays). I just got them this month and bought a CRK leather sheath to go with them. I know not everyone likes to wear a belt, but I choose to carry mine in the sheath for the fear that I will loose it out of my pocket. I always tie off a lanyard though when going through the woods. A CRK is a life long friend, so hopefully this one will be with you for the rest of yours.

Nice story. I love mnandis and if I ever lost mine I don't know what I would do. I have been fortunate to have not lost a knife yet! *knock on wood*

Unwitting victim of a unauthorized passaround at the ol' office eh?

Nice to be able to look back on this and laugh because you get your prized edc back!
I lost a sebenza a few years ago....Took me about a month to replace it. Actually bought it off of BF from Gary Graley! But, I was lost without it...Nothing like the feeling of guilt from spending so much on an edc and this feeling is NOTHING like losing said edc!

Congrats on that!

Next in line I think is the Mnandi....Just cant settle on a particular style! Like the bocote, Cocabola, Camel thorn wood, curly maple, not to mention the Mammoth bark ivory! I think the California buckeyed burl would look fantastic and would be 1st on my list....IF it was available!

Box elder would by my next mnandi.

Just picked up the african blackwood mnandi from the post office...and, like the first, its a winner! Cuts/slices with confidence, the ergos are great so I can get a really good firm grip when cutting thick material. Plus, I know the lock-up is solid, so I can really push her.

Two mnandis now! Heh heh, me happy. :D
