To be perfectly honestThis knife had to dig it's self out of a pretty big hole.
I have had knives fail before but never a knife as expensive as this.I was to say disapointed and a little po'd for the failure. However, the problem was rectified promptly be Red Scorpion Six.I sent my broken blade to them and they sent me a new one in return.I was a little leary at first about using it hard and having the same thing happen again. However I got over my jitters and took the Predator and put it through it's paces a few times.
1.Making a camp at the lake I hike to:I took the Predator on a hike deep into the back country with my Brother-in-law to a remote lake.It was my primary "heavy" and i was counting on it to work......and work it did.
I cut fire wood first.6 trees at an average size of 3-4" round.it cut like butter even in the sub-zero temps.junked up and then split the pieces with no effort.I had to batton a really tough piece of maple and it did it with no problem. We were toasty at camp that day.
2.Bike rescue:Fast forward a few months and it's warmed up enough to go mudding again. The Predator was my first choice for a biking knife.Long story short I broke through a half-frozen bog and my bike was hung up on a frozen and sunken log. That damn log wasn't moving anywhere so I had to make it.The log was 8" round and half frozen and wet.I sweat like a hen hauling hardwood but I finally chopped through and my bike was free.(I really need a winch).
Those were only 2 of the times I have used this knife. There are many more that are too mundane to mention.
The Edge holding is worthy of note.I have NOT sharpened it once since I recieved it.and it's still freeking sharp.I can shave hair with the chopping edge after all the work I put it through. Most of the trips I had it on were in sub-zero(celsius) temps and it wasn't effected by the cold at all.
In closing I am going to say that my confadence in his knife has been fully restored and I recomend that everyone who is looking for a solid WSK to give it a good second look.
P.S. I'll post some pics of it at work when I can get them uploaded.

I'm glad to hear the second one worked out. Do you prefer it over your Tom Brown Tracker ?

My saw teeth are still very sharp.I used them a few times and they have held up well even on frozen wood.
Yes I have a few large bowie style knives. Why do you ask?

That's cool, I was looking for your general impressions along the lines do you feel there is any real functional advantage to the more complicated WSK design.

Yes there is real functionality with this blade. It's lighter than a knife with a solid 1/4'' chopping blade full legenth. If done properly the design makes chopping easier than with a straight blade knife due to the heavy curve front. The TOPS verson doesn't lean the chopping edge far enough forward and your left cutting with the last 1/4 of the chopping edge as well as the hook.
As far as skinning goes I'm not an avid enough hunter to testify to the "gutting"ability if the WSK's hook design however I really like it for limbing. It bites almost the whole branch when it cuts instead of only a portion.
Will the WSK design ever replace the conventional "big knife"?Probablly not but everyone has different tastes in knives. It'd suck if all knives were drop points wouldn't it?I love a good drop point as much as the next guy but variety is the spice of life. This design will change and evolve as all things do as different people explore the possabilities this design offers.
(shoot. That turned into longer answer than I intended)

How much does this weigh? I would be curious if it did actually cahop as well as a bowie of similar weight from a maker like Kirk.

-Cliff

The TOPS tracker weighs about 2 pounds. The predator WSK weighs less.I think better ballance has something to do with it though.

I am glad to hear this one worked better for you, its nice to know that what happened to the last one was a fluke thing.

Good luck with it in the future
