I just received my second sebenza, large ebony inlay one. it looks greater in person than i thought before and the ebony wood matches the satin handle perfectly. You can feel warmer than pure ti one when you hold the handle. Just one situation, if my memory serve me well, everybody said the inlay should be steady, however the slight movement of wood in the pocket can be observed when i push the wood on locker side a little bit harder. the wood on nonlocker side is pretty steady though. I'v sent an email with pics to crk, i am not sure Angela has seen the pics i sent to her,but she said i could sent the knife in if actual movement was confirmed. I don't know if i am making a fuss about it since i have never had a wood inlay sebenza. I don't wanna waste those crk guys'time for nothing and shipping back to US from China is not a easy thing for me as it is more likely that my sebbie will be confiscated by the custom of china due to the fact that knives with locker are illegal here.i'v attached some pics below showing the situation,so maybe you guys can give me some advice. does your sebenza have the same issue ? is that normal for you?

Different woods shrink more than others. Even when properly cured and stabilized. CRK inlays are just that, inlaid into the recessed cutouts. The inlays are held in by 3M double sided tape. They will not come out. I would shoot CRK an email and ask them the specs for their inlays. I have not had as many inlay models as several of the others here, but I would say that gap is not the norm from what I have owned.

If the wood is moving, that isn't good. Really no question about it. The inlay should not be shifting at all. I understand the risk of sending it back to CRK and having it seized by customs, but that really is your best option IMO.

Also, long time no see my friend! Has it gotten very cold in Tianjin yet? Hope this all works out for you!

i did ask crk how they fix the wood inlay, they told me that they had to destory the old wood and fit a new one in. i guess it is because it is extremely hard to remove the inlay without damage to the wood due to the 3m tape. so i am no expert, it has no chance to fix it by myself. anyway i thank you for your suggestion, nyefmaker.

Just guessing the wood shouldn't move. Probably a slight mismatch of the adhesive compound. I'de send it in for repair if I were you.

hi my friend,
yes tianjin is getting colder but temperature has not dropped below the freezing point. how have you been? i bet you'll come back to tianjin after christmas.am i right?
as for my inlay issue, i have two options. i could sell it out in my local forum and then buy a new one, it'll save time,if the lost of money is less than the cost of shipping back to US. but what if the new one has same question? second option is to send it back to crk via hong kong, which is a secure tunnel for that, but super time-consuming.i should give it a second thought.

Is it possible to sent only one scale in for replacement of the inlay to CRK?
Is the knife a user (obviously not yet) - then a drop on super glue might be an option.
While it can't hurt to ask I'm not sure about my second suggestion.
hope this helps.

I like the sending the scale to CRK idea.

If this isn't feasible, since it is moving around, you might be able to remove the inlay, and re-3M tape the inlay into the scale.

Sending in just the scale sounds like a great idea. The chances of you buying another inlayed knife with the same problem are ever so slight. This is not a normal problem.

actually the movement is not enough to tear the wood out that easily, my friend. You even can't observe the tiny movement unless you push harder and the tip and the toe of this slim piece of wood are the worst parts for that.

I'm guessing CRK are not going too be to quick to accept part of a knife for warranty. If they do it might be best to keep it to yourself. ;)

I don't know if I can be of any use to you here, I live in Taiwan and would be happy to help you if I can. :)

你好,haze
crk said it'll work if i just send one scale in, i am working on it. thanks for your concern, your reply has already shown me your help.:) and i also got a friend from Taiwan who is in Guangzhou now, a nice guy, maybe you guys know each other since he said that he knew most of knife fans in Taiwan.
