just a couple weeks ago i was happy to announce i got my first higher end knife which was also my first ZT
I was so happy with every aspect of my ZT0770CF-M390 that i just had to buy myself the ZT0801
its a little bigger and heavier than my 0770 its blade is 3.5" instead of 3.25"
the 0801 weighs in at 5.8oz and the 0770 is 3.0oz
the 0801 is a non-assist flipper where as the 0770 is spring assisted
the 0801 is 0.53" thick and the 0770 is 0.39"
the 0801 has Elmaz and the 0770 is M390

I just couldnt be any happier with my new knives. the 0801 feels more solid since its larger and heavier with a metal handle
the 0801 has much a amazingly smooth action and flips with zero wrist flick (as all non-assist flippers should) and locks up very solid

well here are some new pics of my newest addition to my collection!

And one of the 0770 alone

And just for fun ill throw in a photo i took at Burning man :-)

ZT is one of the best manufacturers in the market today. Those are two of the best knives they put out.

Do you plan on pimping that 0801 in the near future?

dang my thumb is getting a little sore from playing with it so much. frame locks seem to take more pressure to disengage, which is why i prefer liner locks but i do absolutly love this knife!
im not sure which one i like most, right now its probably even but im sure after a few weeks one will be slightly ahead
i do highly recommend both of these knives, the action on the 0801 is so smooth its amazing

I have that 3 ounce model 0770CF in M390. I'll just keep that one. I'm older and losing muscle, and anything heavier makes my pants fall down.

Suspenders, Don!

I love the 0770 design and need to get a CF version soon.

Try to pay attention to where you're placing your fingers and how much pressure you're putting on the lock bar. When you apply pressure to the thumb stud you naturally tighten your grip on the knife so if your fingers are pressing on the lock bar it will increase strength of the detent.

Great knives. I misplaced my 0770CF unfortunately :( but the 0801 and 0561 are still going strong.

i would like to get a blue or purple pocket clip and screws/standoffs (i think thats what the things are called that are spacer things between the handles)

any idea where i can find colored screws and standoffs?
I was also thinking of having it anodized and then sanding the flats back to the silver color of the plain titanium, that way the groves in the scales will be colored. I think that would look really cool in either black or blue. but if i do that i dont think colored screws would look good, there would just be too much going on so i will probably just do one or the other
either colored pocket clip and screws
or
black or blue frame with the flats sanded

I guess i could try a coat of cheap paint and sand the flats down just to see how it looks and to decide if i like it and then i would remove the paint and get it either anodized or a good high quality finish like cerakote. I would prefer anodizing since it cant flake off like a spray on finish can. If i do it black i could try a DLC coating as ive found those are very tough and holds up very well

so any recommendations on a company that does anodizing or DLC
also
I would love recommendations as where to find colored screws and standoffs and other small parts

Sure! Go the top of the page and click on the "Exchange" tab. There you'll find the "Services Offered" and "Gadgets and Gear" sections. You'll find plenty of stuff in regards to what you're looking for.

My wife gave me an 801 as a Christmas gift, very sweet knife (and wife!)...
The knife is built like a tank, the action is very impressive and it carries and cuts well, although it
doesn't slice like a Spyderco.
It is tough to put down and could / will give you a sore finger or thumb, until you get callouses any way...
after a thousand cycles or so :).
I did send mine back to the warranty department though, the blade was quite off center, not rubbing, but very close
and had a slight wave in the edge.
I didn't want to give it up, but after about a week, I figured, it wasn't a cheap knife and it shouldn't be unreasonable to
expect would be made right.
Tracking info says it was delivered, I haven't heard anything yet but we'll see.
Anxious to get it back.

i havnt been able to find any colored screws or standoff in the exchange but i did talk with someone about anodizing

I have 4 different ZT models with a 5th on the way, the 0801bw is by far the best zt I have, it's an amazing piece of hardware...It does take some playing with to get used to it...after I got my 0801, I sold off my 0770cf for a 0566 blackwash...

I also took an 0801/0566 pocket clip and put it on my 0770cf...I think the larger pocket clip better suits the 770
