Guy's,
I had a close call today. I had shut off my converted kiln and put some blades in the tempering oven and went inside for lunch.
When I came out to check on the blades I saw smoke pouring out of my shop. I was lucky to put the fire out. It seems that my heat treat oven was pushed to close to the wall and transfered enough heat to melt the insulation off of some wiring inside the wall. The wires shorted out and started a fire in the wall. I had to rip out sheetrock to get the fire out.
After putting the fire out and figuring out what happened, I spent the rest of the day doing repairs and rearranging things to make more space around the oven.
I learned a lesson today..
This could have been a total loss if I had waited 10 more minutes to come outside..
Be careful out there..

Fire can be very destructive! Glad you caught it in time and were able to limit damage! My dad’s Auto parts store went up (fire started in pet store next door) in 1992 and was a total loss! We had to wait 6 months for insurance and ended up moving locations! The business never fully recovered from that disaster!

Glad to know there's only limited loss. This is a lesson learned. Extremely cautious with heating apparatus and open flame.

Wow! Glad both you and shop are okay. Seems like a valuable if pricey lesson.
