I'll be ordering from knifeworks.com, mainly because of the prices, but I need some advice. I have 140 to 150 max to spend. These are the things I want right now. Tell me which combo to get and why.

Benchmade Sequel
Benchmade Mini-Skirmish
Benchmade Vex
Cold Steel AK-47
Spyderco Native
Spyderco Sharpmaker

A question about the Sharpmaker, how sharp will it get a knife when used properly? I can achieve mediocre shaving sharpness now with some 30+ year old bench stones I inherited. Will the Sharpmaker get my knives sharper?

I have the sharp maker. It can give you razor sharp edges once you get to know how to use it. It actually isnt hard to learn either, just watch the DVD and skim the book and you should be fine. I can get my knives to shave hair/split it. The only thing i do different than they say is i dont use the flat side to sharpen, just the edges. 5 times each side on the gray stones, 6 times each side on the white.

I would get the Benchmade Mini Skirmish! It will take most of your money but it is a real nice folder and built solid! GOOD LUCK! Kevin:)

how smooth is the skirmish? I wanted a axis in my size, but I'm afraid the griptilian (the only one near my ideal size) will feel cheap and flimsy.

Ah I c. sry didn't know that....on the other hand, I've seen and handled the Sequel in person...didn't like it. The knife-to-handle proportion seemed rather odd; the blade seemed too big for the handle. Besides, its a rather small knife...I guess just not my taste. The Vex looks interesting but it's a Red class...dunno if that means anything to you lol.

Ok, I changed my mind. I want a blur. sg-2 or s30v?!?!? I need to know which to go with quick!

Thanks, I found the review. I just ordered the SG2, I live in MD, and wound up ordering from Knifecenter, which is in MD. Hehe... Expect a full review with pics when it arrives.

You will enjoy the SG2 Blur, Vanc, I love mine. Fantastic fit and finish with an edge that won't quit.

I hope the gold-ish aluminum wont look cheesy! I'm very excited, especially after hearing nothing but good things, and the fact that its a good 'ol kershaw.

I'd save up a little and get the Shapmaker and Mini-Skirmish.
The Sharpmaker will make all your other knives a little bit better, thus being the better deal.

And you can't sharpen the Mini-Skirmish with a bench stone anyway.

Edit: the SG-2 Blur is a great idea.

The aluminum is far from what I'd consider gold. It's much more an earth-toned brown... Good choice on the SG2 Blur! It's an outstanding knife. I've been more than impressed with the one I have.
