When I strike it with a soft mallet....It sings a low tone 'tonggg'....

It resonates into a low hummmm....It makes the sound of peace...:)

Makes me think that eventually different ideas may intertwine and merge into a collective agreement between different beings and believes......

Still hoping.....

Post a pic. I'm kinda lost.

In college we had a special bowl...........we smoked it.:D :foot:

Strike it with your 25 incher...... :D
Which one? The Gelbu Special, the Malla or the Kobra?

I still need a 25" Ang Khola.

See, no peace.

Astro, get an Imageclub account to post your pix. Living in HK, you're in a position to post some cool photos.

Aren't you on the ocean. Did those zombies eat out your eardrums to get to your brain? Can't you hear the waves?:p Layout that beautiful collection and alternate between gazing at them and out to sea. :D  ;)

This made me think. Can you catch blue crabs from your own yard? Sounds like heaven to me. Get some string, some chicken necks, a dip net, and a case or two of GOOD beer. I'll be there asap.

I have one too astro:thumbup:

Did the mallet that yours came with come wrapped on one end with suede by any chance? If not you might want to try that. If you rub around the rim of the bowl lightly it starts to hum louder and louder---incredible vibrations and sound--even better than the gong type sound:cool:

My wife does those sounds with several bowls the rubbing around the edge gets very loud. Sometimes she puts in different amounts of water to change the pitch for certain meditations etc...

What a great idea! I've done that with wine glasses to change the pitch but it never occured to me with the singing bowl:thumbup:

Hi Astro:

I have heard singing bowls mentioned here. I am unfamiliar with them.

What do they do and what was their original purpose?

Why do you guys like them? (I've never heard one either. Can anyone post a .wav file?)

For not sharing ! L:O:L

Siging bowls ? If they are what I think and are to make you more introspective ?I think healers use them as well ? The last thing I need is to become more introspective . As for healing ? The jury is still out on that one . The only "healer" i knew who used one was selling flutes on the internet . I paid 70 bucks for a bamboo flute that was fit for blowing out candles and not much else . When I asked this "healer " for my money back he said there was nothing he could do for me . So much for his healing powers !

Must have been too introspective to give a snot. Or maybe he used your money to fill his other bowl up and then got she-i-tay and had no money to give to you.:D

Astro, can you tell me where you got this? I saw a nice brass one on ebay, but the ad was horribly written and it was made in China. I didn't know enough to know if it was tourist junk or the real thing. I would like to get one soon.

Thanks for any info.

i know some nice folx in VT that import them from nepal, they occasionally go there in person to select them, and ting-sha, and other items as well. some are pounded out and handmade, others are machine turned, but sound pretty good to me. very inexpensive as well, compared to going to the maul.

Hey Bladite, please drop me an email or PM and I'll check it out. As long as they are the real deal I am not too concerned as to the method of manufacture.

Thanks for any info!

Bladite. Yes I finally got one :)

Maui. Yes 3 types sound can be produced. First, strike with striker (hard wood) and makes a loud tong~~~. Second, rub the rim and let the vibration builds up to a...wuuwwuuuuwuuu sound. (the one u described ? so you rub too hey MauiRub ? :D) Third is to strike with a felt Mallet (which I doun't have yet) and makes a low tung sound like a temple bell.

Steve. I listen to the sound and meditate foe a while. :)

Norm. I'll try to post some links. I didn't buy from them but looks like reputable sellers. personally I'd go for hand hammered ones. :)
