my skyline family

Here's my little family.
Did a little parts swapping and customized each a bit.
All the G10 scales are melted - for a light duty knife, the ergonomics are good enough that the grippy texture seems redundant. The smooth/shiny scales feel much better in my hands too. Not sure if they capture well from my phone cam.
The red is my swiss-army skyline. Polished red G10, polished blade.
The black is for comparison. Blade is original, scales polished (pseudo-CF)
The orange also has polished scales, with a home-made stonewash blade. I used the snap-on blade from the red, since the stonewash hides the mark a bit.

The pics don't show it - but the liners and standoffs also match.

Just having some fun.
And trying to keep my mind off of all the fun I am missing in Atlanta this weekend...:grumpy:

Very cool. I like the polished blade with red, but what I'm really interested in is some more info on those clips.

bump for info on the clips. they would also fit a lot of ZT's since many of them use the same one as the Skyline.

x10 on the clips. It's my only knock on the skyline. And I love them. Would love to find out more.

Nice collection too!

They are from a knife maker store online - just search for titanium stealth low rider clip.
They are drilled for a standard benchmade. I had to drill the holes a bit narrower to fit the skyline holes. I guess the other option is to tap/drill my own holes - but have not gone there yet.
The middle clip is the same one - just cut off to keep is smaller.

I have an STR clip - awesome. I just have a little trouble justifying a clip that costs as much as the knife. Especially when I can't stop at just one knife.
pm/email me if you can't find it.

I found em, and they really are dirt cheap seeing that they are titanium. I will be picking up a couple of these....thanks for the info!
Was it difficult to drill through the titanium?

much easier than hardened/spring steel I bought previously. Not too bad, really.

I had a chance to pickup a Damascus Skyline yesterday but the the guy wanted way way way too much money than I was willing to pay. Let's just say I could have bought a Forum special Skyline and a almost have enough left over for a brand new regular Skyline.

Still waiting for a damascus as well. Rare enough, I would hesitate prior to tweaking it. stonewash damascus??!!

If you stonewashed or polished Damascus it would just like a regular blade...

Wouldn't there still be some lines left on the exterior of the blade seeing that the steel is literally bent over and compressed several times to form layers of steel. I think there would still be some visible layers if the Damascus was stone washed or polished.

Correct you can't get rid of the pattern of the Damascus. The edge of a Damascus blade looks smooth and patternless but it is not, it is such a small surface area that it is hard to see with the naked eye.

Bad joke - no point in getting damascus then covering it up with a stonewash finish.
Would actually consider trying to enhance the damascus, if anything.
I just find it interesting - they are all skylines - but each one seems to be exerting its own personality.
Almost like totally different knives.

Now you just need the forum skyline and a the brown one.

Good tip on the clips. Do they feel tough and strong?

BTW, does anyone know the status of the orange skyline from Cabelas? It doesn't look like it's available in their stores anymore but is available from their online store.

Do you have a preference of those three clips? Long or short? Skinny or wide? Just curious on your thoughts

Not really - they are all so thin that they do kinda disappear - hence stealth.
If I go with a wider clip - then I prefer short. Deep carry (for me) is for discretion - why then have a long/large flashy clip?
I guess a heavier knife might need a beefier clip, though.
