I finally unearthed my collection of safety razors while unpacking after our recent move. Figured I would share. Nothing here is particularly rare or "collectible" - I got them to use, mostly in the $10-20 price range - but they're cool little artifacts and it's amazing how well some of them still work. With sharp modern blades, these 50 to 100+ year old razors give the best shave I've ever had.
On the top left is one of my favorites, an Ever-Ready 1914. Below that in the green case is a Gem Micromatic "bullet tip". On top in the middle is the first (and the only double edged) safety razor I bought, a Gillette from the early 70s. Below that are more Micromatics - an open comb, a "Clog-Pruf", and another bullet tip. The two vertical razors on the right are two different models of Valet "Auto-strop".
The Auto-strops look neat although I couldn't get the hang of using them without blood loss:
I like all of the Micromatics, but the Clog-Pruf (the middle one) is my favorite. With the right technique, it's just as close a shaver as the original open comb design, while feeling nearly as comfortable as the much less aggressive bullet-tip. When this collection was misplaced during the move, I ordered another Clog-Pruf which I've been using daily since then.
Couple shots of the Ever-Ready 1914 and the vintage blades it came with, which I'm not planning on trying. This is my second favorite shaver after the Clog-Pruf - great feel and geometry for a very nice shave, but the internal springs it uses for blade retention aren't very reliable and the blade often moves in the middle of things. Maybe I can tinker with it to make it hold better.
