Not sure if I would really call it a collection, but I find myself adding to the Schrades more and more... There are a few more that are not in the picture, they are still in transit :D

Here are 3 that my Dad gave me.. Never used, he had them since the 70's..

And the misc... The 899 was my Grandads, it is one of my favorite knives

I collect Old Timer knives also. Those are some nice ones you have; your's are particularly sought after because they're older and in the wood grain boxes.

Very nice. That 885UH is the hinged box is a 1960's version. It is a very collectable one. All of those are very nice Schrades, including the honesteel.

My life-long friend had a Schrade Old Timer single bladed gunstock trapper with a liner lock when we were boys. He broke it in the woods one time when we were in high school. Eight years ago when he was my best man, I wanted to get him a new one, but all I could find was a Chinese version, which was okay, but didn't seem as nice.

That sounds like the 194OT. They show up occationally on eBay, where I bought mine.

Nice collection! And having a few heritage knives makes it even more nice.

From what I can tell, the Honesteel in the picture was made after 1979, but before 1999. They were last made in 2001. If the box is a correct match, then it dates from circa 1980-85.

Thanks Codger.... My Dad got them for safety awards and thought it was the late 70's. They have been sitting in his closet ever since. He has an old Case Finn and a Buck 110 that he uses. Said he never had any reason to use these :D
Any idea when they stopped coming with the lanyards?

Rather nice collection you have there, the Honesteels alone a becoming very collectable.

It is only a guess, but I believe the lanyard was seldom used. They were deleted from the Sharpfinger knives as well. The first honesteels had two holes, one for the lanyard and one for the sheath/handle stud. The next design had the teardrop shaped hole to allow the lanyard to go thru the same hole as the sheath/handle stud. The last design eliminated the lanyard and used the single round hole. The attached lanyard does seem to get in the way when used as a sharpener. I can see where it might have come in handy when using it as a billy or wedge or "pelvis splitter". But it didn't prove too useful in those other functions. All speculation on my part. I've never seen anything in writing from the company explaining the design changes.
