My SOCOM Elite is hurting me!

Ok, I recently got a Microtech SOCOM Elite MANUAL (from Chief) that is very sweet (anopeen finish, Brend grind). But it doesn't want to stay closed. In other words, it opens very easily (with a slight flick). That's ok, but I keep stabbing myself and my Band Aids are wearing thin. I've tried to tighten the pivot pin/screw but it's as tight as...well it's tight. Anyway, anyone else have this problem?

Sorry to hear that ... I can't imagine what's doing it. I've got one myself, and I've never had a problem like that, although it does open easily. Possible solutions include carrying it in the sheath, of course, but that's not always convenient.

Where do you carry it? Since it's tip-down, if you clip it to the back edge of your left-hand front pocket, blade opening against the seam, it won't bite. Or the forward edge of a right-hand rear pocket.

i dont have this problem with the same knife.

I vote send it to microtech.

could need a new microbar spring or ball detent or something

Maybe I'm making it sound worse than it is. My Mtech Kestrel is easy to open too, but the socom has a longer blade, making it easier to release. As far as I can tell, there are no defects. The spring is tight on the bar, the ball grabs. Maybe I need to be less careless with it. It just seems to come out at the wrong time.

And, by the way, I carry it exclusively in my right pocket. But it doesn't open unless I have it out and I'm screwing around with it.

I was just recently on a thread regarding lock strength, reliability etc and was heavily leaning on how solid my Socom E has been. I'm with lizking above, send it in. Even if it's not a warranty repair because it's used, I can't imagine it would cost that much to put it right.
