and not a pleasure trip either. When I retired, I signed up with our local Red Cross as a volunteer. With 18 years of Emergency Services experience, I figured I would be of some use to them in local emergencies. Well, I just got the call, and I am off to either Mississippi or Louisianna. Won't know for sure until I arrive in Houston. Flying to Houston, then by truck to my final destination. Probably be gone for at least two weeks, maybe longer. I am taking my trusty Powerlock, Trident folder and one Flash II. Since I am flying the first leg, the SOGs will have to go into the baggage hold. But as soon as I reach Houston, on the belt and into the pocket they go. Found a neat pouch that will fit on my backpack shoulder strap for the Trident. The Powerlock and Flash II will be on my belt. Wish me luck and keep those SOGs sharp til I get back. Take care.

Thats a great thing your doing richard, stay safe and keep your SOGs sharp. It's a very sad thing, this horrible storm and all the flooding, they need all the help they can get down there. God bless and stay safe.;)

P.S. when are you leaving?

leaving from Miramar MCAS. Flying military airlift along with some other DMAT and SAR folks from San Diego. As it stands right now, do not know for certain where I will be sent, but it could either be NO or the surrounding area. Also, Biloxi was mentioned as well. Either way, got my boots waterproofed, my quartz watches with new batteries and my SOGs are all ready to go.

that the folks that I and many others are trying to help really are the ones that need your good wishes and prayers. I am one of the lucky ones. When I finish my "tour", I will be coming home to family and friends-all of whom are safe and sound. These folks will have nothing for the most part, to return to. So, when you retire tonight to your warm, comfortable bed, say a prayer for those who have nothing to sleep in, let alone to eat or drink. And if you can, donate what you can afford to your local Red Cross or Salvation Army. These are the folks in the front lines trying their best to help. Thanks guys.

Very good point Richard, such a terrible thing, I just can't believe what I have been seeing. Be careful and be sure and tell us all about it when you come home, thank you.

And it is people like you who show how this country comes together in hard times  :)

I will take them with me to keep me going. My only regret is that I don't have a Revolver to take with me. None of the local knife stores have them in stock and it would not be possible to order one in time. But, as soon as I get back, and have the available funds, I am going to get me a Seal Revolver to include in my kit. Thanks again, and see you in a couple of weeks. Time for some shut-eye. Got to get up very eary in the morning. Take care.
