Months ago I bought a Ray Kirk (Raker knives) Lil blue 2. Great little knife and very well made. Sometime later I used it for a trade for another knife. As time goes by, I fully intended to get another Raker, and today I finally did (this one will never be sold or traded

) Anyways, I got another Lil blue 2. This one doesnt have the blue-ish color the last one did...this one is almost mirror polished..not quite, but almost. As it is the same design as my last one, I know I will enjoy it VERY much.

Anyways...on to my sons knife

Ray Kirk had a little knife hanging on his wall. My son saw it and commented what a cool knife it was. It has a very antique look to it. When asked, Ray explained that he made it from a hay-bale tine (hope I got the term right). Next thing ya know, Ray wrapped the knife up to protect the edge and gave it to Tommy (my son) as a gift...hows that for cool ?

It is just the neatest little knife, and I know my son cant wait to put it to work. I think tomorrow we are going to both take our new knives and go out and find whatever we can to cut, whittle and carve on.

Tomorrow sometime I will try to get pics of both the new knives up....my son cant wait for everybody to see his very first custom knife...it sure was a good day for everybody.

Good story, Richard. Thanks for sharing.

No surprise there, though. Ray is a great guy in addition to his other talents.

I hope your son enjoys his Raker as much as we enjoy ours.

Blues' Knife Pix

Well, as someone who’s expecting to receive his first Raker knife in the next couple of days (a Li’l Rank with stag scales), it’s great to hear more good stuff about the quality of Ray’s knives. It’s even more gratifying to learn that he’s a nice guy, as well. During our dealings he’s always struck me as being a gentleman of the highest order…extremely responsive and courteous. Even though I haven’t received my knife yet, I already suspect that it won’t be my last Raker blade…

Yep Ray is as nice a fella as his knives are. Cann't go wrong with them. I also have a LB2 and will never trade it.

Wow! I unfortunately am not familiar with Ray's work, but this guy is definitely a winner!

Congratulations to you and your son

Ray is a great maker and a wonderful person. The "Lil Blue" I got from him is one of my favorite knives.

Ok, heres the pics...we couldnt resist using them before we got around to taking the pics, so please forgive and bits of 'stuff' I may have missed when wiping them down

First is my new Lil' blue 2.

Next is my sons knife. I overlaid the knife on a picture of an old tractor with a hay bail rake on it. The knife was forged from an old fork, tine, or whatever ya call them off an old one. Whats so neat is that the knife has kind of and old antique, kind of frontier look to it, while having the modern quality that we are used to from a good maker. And believe me, this knife cuts, and holds a nice edge as my son was worn out before the edge ever began to slide

Thanks again Ray, we enjoyed the visit and both these knives will have a special place in our collection.

Paracelsus again

This thread is something that completely took me by surprise. I do these things because it seems like the thing to do at the time and I have never regretted them. It has always been with the parents permission and the recipient has always agreed to abide by their parents rules when it comes to sharp edged knives. I really do want to thank all the people that have been my customers, because without you, my vocation as a knife maker would not be near as rewarding.
Richard, it was nice to visit with you again and your welcome back anytime. Richard, you need to make sure he knows a safe way to sharpen, as it is easy to cut ones self at times.

Well, I just got back from picking up a package at the Post Office and I’m happy to report that not only is Ray Kirk a true gentleman, he’s also a gifted knifemaker. I just received my “Li’l Rank” and I’m extremely pleased with it. Those of you who have dealt with Ray already know the quality of his work, so I won’t go into all of the details as to why I like this knife so much…I’ll just mention that it’s Ray’s attention to all of the little details that makes this such a sweet little rig. His knives are also a tremendous value, in my opinion. Excellent products and a great guy to deal with…thanks, Ray!

Jim

Ray, I will definatly work on his sharpening. We have mainly been concentrating on safe use and cleaning and caring for them. I have been doing all his sharpening for him, but he says hes ready to learn that now.

Jim, dont withhold the details....lets here all about your knife.
