My Son got his first deer today!!

My 12 year old Son Destan got his first deer today, a nice button buck. He and I went to a hunter safety course (required in Missouri) in August, went to the range a few times sighting in an old SKS. It paid off, good heart/lung shot. Field dressed with a my Gerber Gator part serrated and his Marbles Fieldcraft. Kind of exciting for me to be on another stand, hear the shot, then hear Destan on the little hand held radio "Dad!! I got one!!"

Good for you both! I got my first one 9 years ago with my Dad and it's still one of my best memories.
 
Congrates Geobar on your son's first deer. ;) It's great to hear of another young person joining our ranks in hunting. It seems these days the younger generation is not interested in these types of activities. Next to knifemaking, deer hunting is an absolute passion for me. Hats off to you for introducing a young person to our sport. :)

There's nothing like your boy's first time ... you could get fifty of 'em yourself and not feel as good about it....

It's a great feeling to be with your son when he gets his first. Sounds like you guys had everything covered and done it right good. :)
 
Good job ! My six year old daughter wants to hunt. I've told her that once I'm comfortable with her firearm safety, then we'll hunt.

Congrats to you and your son, hunting is certainly a good way to get out and bond...as well as in general having fun. I cant wait to move to the US, lots of hunting to be done to make up for the little I've done here (mostly pigging and bagging water buffalo).

That is great news! I get more excited seeing my kids hunt than getting something myself. I hope you and your son have many great hunts ahead. I am taking my 10 yr old out for a doe hunt this weekend and he can hardly wait. Tell your son congrats on a good shot and a fine trophy ( they are all trophies in my book).

that's the same reason why my dad never let me steer the car again.. :D

Seriously though, congrats and that is awesome. Nice to hear about fathers doing their part and bagging deer. :cool:
 
Think if you had given him a Gameboy, probably within 6 months he would have no idea when he got it. This on the other hand will stay with him till he is a grandpa and his kids, kids will be sprinting up the drive shouting Grandad! I got one I got one, come see! Later that day he will say, I remember the day I got my first deer with my dad......
 
Very true Temper. I can remember all the hiking, shooting and generaly out doors type stuff much better than all the hours I've wasted playing video games.
Much better memories, much better times.

So geobar, are you going to post some pics? :)
