I just wanted to share the good news. It is very exciting, and I spend a lot of time here, so I wanted to share the news here too. Mother and son are both well and healthy. Sam was born 8lbs 9oz and 20.5 inches.

Just to keep this knife related, before we went to bed, just a handful of hours before Sam was born, my wife suggested that I should pull out my whole knife collection just to see where it is these days. I know that my collection isn't a big one by the standards of this community, but it is a lot bigger than I thought it would be just a few years ago. I am mostly active on the traditional subforum these days, but my collection is not just traditional, so I am sharing here on the General forum.

It seems fitting that my wife (who is tolerant of my knife habit, but not into knives herself) would suggest that I take a picture of my knives the night before she went into labor. I feel lucky in all the ways one can feel lucky.

Big Congratulations!! That's a big boy. Glad to hear that everybody's healthy.

Your collection is plenty big. I highly doubt that you're going to run into a situation that you don't have the right knife for. You don't need more than that. ;)

Congrats on the new addition and what a great excuse to get a new knife to commemorate the occasion

Congrats! You should pick up a new knife to commemorate your sons birth and pass it down to him when he gets old enough.

I 2nd this: here is the current selection I have purchased since my son, (the) Max was born, with him in mind to graduate through... The only one's that I carry regularly are the Green River congress, and occasionally the MCusta or the MUDD, (I have my own ELMAX Blur that I frequent).
The small Dozier stays in our fishing tackle box, for whenever we'reout fishing together.

mind you he's 4, his favorite color is most definitely green;

All I'm missing is a couple more fixed blades, (like an Enzo necker and a Hazen, both with green handles), and I'm, I mean he's all set!

Congratulations sir!
When my son was born a bit over 2 years ago I bought him a 484-1. Well it's his when he is old enough, and I try not to use it too often 'til then

The only knives I have really thought about getting my kids in advance are maybe a couple of Buck Custom shop 110s. Something with their names engraved on them. But then again, maybe SKBlades (I don't see him on the official dealer's list, but he is an official dealer according to his avatar) will have an offering that really tickles me (the Handsome Jack offering is almost perfect, except I actually like the hollow grind on the 110s).

Otherwise, I feel like I buy enough knives that I will have no trouble outfitting my kids.

Congratulations!!! :) Please remind yourself: knives/hobbies, take a back seat, to your spouse/children. Best wishes to you & your family!

BTW- this is one of the more enjoyable posts I've had the pleasure reading here on BF's. Thank you for sharing both this awesome news, but your very nice collection.

Fantastic news AD!!!
I'm always reminded of the birth of my first son! In 1988 ultra sounds weren't as accurate as now. We were told a girl was on the way! Her room was done in pink and we had a TON of clothing hand me downs!!
They were wrong and I had that room blue in no time!!
Enjoy every minute with that little guy brother, you'll blink your eyes and he'll be in high school!!!

Congrats to both the OP and you! I think you just need to add a green scaled SAK, a green Leatherman LEAP and a Green Mora Eldris to that combo, those are 3 very nice additions for a growing kid to discover and try out all of the great cutlery out there!
Just my $0.02 based on experience

Nice!

Time for that Sebenza with the same born on date as your son's birthday, which can eventually be passed on to that son.

Sweet. How can wifey think anything but? Score one for you!

Congrats! I'm glad mom and baby boy Sam are doing fine. Oh, and nice collection too. :)
