I gave my grandson a beautiful 1995 Buck 110 earlier this year. It was born the same year as he was.

Well, I got to thinking that maybe my son would like a Buck 110 that was born the same year as him. I found one I had that had a full blade and decided to work on it this morning.

He is going to get a two liner 4th/1st from 1970 for his 42nd birthday later this month.

Here are the before pictures;

I have a correct sheath for it in excellent shape that will also be sent along to his home in Oklahoma City for his August 25th birthday.

He does lots of deer hunting and has always been very successful, so I'm sure this will get used lots!!

Thanks for looking. :)

Absolutely outstanding.

I would love to know how you did that - even if just a couple of sentences.

Good effort Stumps. Nice photos and I've always liked the 2 tone Macassar ebony. DM

Thanks Duane and nutoknives!

I work on them slowly. I buff them out first to see how bad they are, then I take the blade to a 3M wheel to take out the scratches. If the bolsters have light dings and scratches, I'll sand them by hand, then buff them out again until I like what I see. Then I'll take the blade to my belt sander and find a good burr on the blade, then I put it to my belt leather strop and take away the bur. The sound of the steel against the leather belt strop is one of my favorite sounds. Not sure how to explain that, but it's like music to my ears. I'll take the blade to my smooth leather strop if I'm really going for a hair splitting edge. I then take it to the buffer real lightly to shine it up, then lubricate the blade. I constantly dip the knife in one of the buckets of water I keep by my wheels and belts. I never let the knife get so hot I can't touch it....not even close.

I have lots of fun bringing some beauty back to knives in need of some help. :)

Very nice job, Stumps. Anyone would be proud to carry that knife. Love the half and half scale. Nice mirror edge on the blade.

That is a great looking knife. Hope your son enjoys it for many, many years. He and I share the same birthday though I'm ten years his senior.

Thanks hogger and edbeau and Badhammer!! I'm sure he's gonna like it....especially since it was born the same year. :)

I'd say that 42 year old knife has lots of life left in it!! I'll make him an offer to sharpen it whenever if he would like, but he could probably do a better job at that than me.

Stumps, I have to say you did a great job on the that 110... It came out really nice and sweet... Your son is going to love it... ITE ...

When i was scrolling down the pictures i didn't expect that. What a great job Stumps.
Clay

Thanks a bunch ITE and Clay....and everyone!! That was fun spending the morning working on this knife and hearing comments from my fellow Buckaroos.

I talked to my son yesterday to let him know it's on the way, but he doesn't have a clue what "it" is. Knowing him, he'll be very happy with "it"!! :)

I'll send him a link to this thread after he get's the 110, so he has an idea of a little history of the knife.

It's packaged and should be in Oklahoma Thursday or Friday to start it's new life.

You should work for the Buck knives spa dept., that is unless you've worked there in the past or something.

Thanks, but I am a complete novice at this. I am learning as I go and having fun doing it. There are lots of members here who REALLY are good at this stuff!!

Thank you too tvhaugen. :)

I'm in Oklahoma City at my son's house. I'm on my way to Post Falls for the 25th and have taken the opportunity to see family along the way.

I asked my son about the 110 I sent him last year that this thread was about....if he's had a chance to put it to use. He smiled and said sure, on deer and turkey, but he didn't do any hog hunting last year. He hunts near Dustin where he has a cabin.

I just thought I would post an update photo of the 1970 Buck 110 after it cleaned a deer. (I still like the two tone Macassar slab on the knife)

LOL! Well Mark, that is what you gave it to him for. Good to know he is putting it to good use. Thanks for the update.
