My oldest son, who is 8, will be starting 3rd grade this year. This is the year he will be a Bear in Cub Scouts and will be eligible for his whittler's chip. I promised him if he did well in school last year I would take him to buy his first knife. He could pick any of the Case knives in the shop short of the Tony Bose. I don't even have one of those :)

So he did well and with school around the corner, I took him to the store. He picked a Splitback Whittler in SS. You can google "C6487 Case “William Russell Case” Chestnut Bone Splitback Whittler" to see the knife he picked.

I am impressed at his choice. This is a very nice knife with no wobble or other issues. He is quite proud to have a knife like the ones I have. So far the knife and him are inseparable. I sharpened the main blade for him today.

Nice that's a great looking model there!! Swell center, how could anyone resist !

Bet you got that over at Turner's. ;). I hope Mr. Pope is doing well.

That's a great pattern. I've got one like it in the Case Brothers variety. Great size and shape for carry and a nice assortment of blades. Plus they're pretty.

Great story! I love my first knife memories and I guarantee he will cherish this one.
You can't go wrong with a nice, new case knife.
Have some bandaids ready too.

You son has terrific taste in knives! That knife was part of a limited run in 2007 - I have the Barlow from the series and they are perfectly fitted, elegant knives. Congratulations to the young man! OH

The knife has great snap on all blades, no rub, and no wobble. The grinds were good as well. I was happy and he was happy. He has good taste!

Great story, I can relate this is the 1st knife my Dad gave me, a Schrade Uncle Herny Trapper he gave it to me 40 years ago

What a great story. I remember receiving my first knife, like I'm sure we all do. After all, it was responsible for the habit I carry around with me today. It's a proud moment for any parent when a child earns that first knife, and his will last him a lifetime! Well done!

Your son has really good taste. I would like to have one of those myself. It wil make a fine edc/whittling buddy..
