This is my son Graham's first knife. Graham is 11. He ground it out a few weeks ago and finished it up this week. Hand rubbed to 800 grit and razor sharp. He gave it to his grandpa for Christmas. Still not very good at taking picture, they don't do the knife justice. He did all the work on it except for the scales. I did the rough profiling of the scales on the belt grinder and applied the CA finish. He sanded and shaped them by hand. When I ordered stencils from Ernie I had stencils made for both kids so he has his name etched on the blade.
Overall Length: 7"
Cutting Edge: 3”
Blade Steel: 1084
Grind: Convex
Scales: Stabilized Hickory (we think it's hickory)

Really nice work! Hope he continues to follow knifemaking if he enjoys it. Grandpa should have a merry Christmas indeed:D

Good job, Graham!!

Graham,
Well done young man!!, already you are doing what a lot of us dream to do..keep it up....you may not know it yet, but that is a knife your Grandfather will treasure most sincerely.

That is way cool! The fact that your little dude decided to give away his first knife shows that he is of a certain character, one in which you should be proud of. We always say to never give away your first knife, but in your sons case, maybe giving it to grandpa will ensure that it stays safe far longer than any 11-teen year old can think into the future.

Good on ya' zaph1 for teaching your son the skills to do things on his own. I knew I sensed a bit of proud papa voice in your post! Isn't it great having a son, sometimes!

Yes, I'm definitely proud of the knife that he made. It's got a better hand rubbed finish than any that I've done. As far as giving it to grandpa, you're correct about it being safer there than in his desk drawer at home and getting lost over the years. When a friend told him it was probably a $100 knife(I was thinking around $150), he decided to make knives and sell them to earn money. I guess it beats mowing lawns or having a paper route. Hopefully he will have his first one for sale and sold by spring break.

Very nice
Good for him that he found this at his young age
You must be the proudesd dad around!

excellent!

My son is 7 and has been messing around helping me with sanding some, but he's eagerly waiting for his chance to make some.

I showed him this and he said "awesome!"
