My son is now 15 and while he has had a couple of modern liner locks he bought with his own money he has never owned a slip joint. This summer when I got my trapper from Gary Crowder Prestin began showing interest in my knives. He had been expecting to get a Case in March when we go to Branson for a long weekend. So needless to say I have been happy about his new liking for traditional folders.

I have always tried to teach him responsibities have consequences or rewards depending on how they are handled. I have made him aware that sometimes the only reward is knowing you have done what is needed, life doesn't always give a pat on the back. As he has gotten older he has earned my trust as well as his mothers. Lately he has not only taken care of the things required of him but gone beyond that. Taking initiative on his own to do more. His mother and I are very proud that he is respectful, caring and is as responsible as a 15 year old can be.

So as a surprise I scoured the GEC offerings on Knives Ship Free. I picked the #72 Cody Scout. I placed the order Friday afternoon and knife arrived in North Little Rock today. I can't say enough about how great the service was. Thanks KSF.

When I opened the tube and unwrapped the knife I was struck by the fact that the knife looks just like the picture advertised. The fit and finish are great. Nice walk and talk with perfect halfstops. The blades are perfectly centered. With a pull I would rate at a 7. Makes me a touch jealous that I didn't get me one.

Great story, great kid, and great knife! Congratulations and way to point him in the right direction

How awesome! Congrats to your son on his first traditional folder and for his ethic of hard work. Also congrats to you for raising such a great son!

The knife is a beauty and will be something he remembers for many years to come.

Outstanding! He's a fine looking young man and it sounds like you and your wife have raised him well. I wish more parents would take the time to do things right.

A proud moment sir :)

Congratulations to both of you

A great kid and a great father deserve a great knife - excellent combination! OH

Great present, congrats to your son! I'll never forget my first pocketknife from my Dad, and I enjoyed gifting slipjoints to my sons too.

Now that they're older, maybe they'll give their dad a slipjoint for birthdays/Christmas :D

Carrying on a great father-son tradition! Nice job!

Chris, what a terrific post! Everything about it makes me smile, this from the father of two grown boys that are out of the house. Fond memories to say the least.

Great news! Happy day! He looks very pleased, and you must be quite proud. Thank you for sharing with us. :)

This is a great gift, for a young man. Owning his first own real knife is a big day. Thanks for sharing the story and the pics. He actually seems to be a happy young man.

Well done (the man and the slippie as well)!!

that's a great choice of knife, and its great to get a gift that you've really earned from someone...especially when its knife of course :)

Thanks for the kind comments gents. When I get home from work I will let Prestin read the comments and post his impression.
