This is a copy and paste of my 11 year-old son's post on another site. The contest he mentions in the first paragraph was to honor the memory of a young outdoors man who passed away at an early age. He was one of several winners, and this is his trip report.

Young Bushcrafter Contest Trip Report

Hey guys I, SonofBeanbag just came back from a hiking and kayaking trip in New England. On the trip I used some equipment purchased with the contest money from Anton’s parents. I just wanted to say thank you all very much for holding the contest. The trip was awesome and it was even better knowing that I was bringing Anton’s memory with me. The hiking and kayaking was amazing and we even climbed Mt.Washington. The gear used was very comfortable and made the hiking and camping very easy. Thank you again very much for the contest and I will continue spreading Anton’s memory on all of my future wilderness adventures. Here are some photos from the trip.

On the first day we did a high and low ropes course so all the kids could get to know each other.

If you don't want to hike, you can drive or take the coal fired cog-railway to the top:

I hope my friends will send me some kayaking pictures to post.

We had our good-bye dinner in Portland and drove home the next day.

Wow! Your son did an awesome trip report...looks like it was a great adventure and I'm sure those will be memories that last. It's good to see today's youth spending quality time in the outdoors. Kudos to your son...that would make any father proud:thumbup:

Yup, he's a lucky little bugger, but he's earned it. He's a good, smart kid who has logged a lot of woods hours and hiking miles with me, and he was ready for the next level.

Thanks, I'll pass that on to him. I'm super proud of him, heck, the first time I climbed Washington, I was already 12.:D

One of the nicest, heart warming threads I've seen on BF. Your son did a great job documenting his adventure.

A BIG thumbs up

If you thought this write up was heart warming, then you'd better get your Kleenex ready before you read his contest entry. He did all the writing himself, I just edited for grammar.

Young Bushcrafter Contest Entry:

Hi, I am Son of Beanbag, I’m 11, and I love spending time in the woods with my dad. Some of you know me from my dad’s posts. This summer my dad is sending me on a one week wilderness trip to New Hampshire and Maine. He wants to get me started young like he did. I will be hiking, kayaking and camping every night. I need a lot of different things for the trip, from boots and raingear, to a sleeping bag and mat. I feel bad for the parent’s loss, and I feel like bringing their son on the trip with me. I know I can’t, but if there is anything I can do to help his parents feel better, I will. I would be honored to use outdoor gear in his memory.

He sounds like a great kid, I would have loved to meet him.

Thank you and I’m very sorry for your loss.
