I ordered for each of my three children Randall #5-6" knives, all with the same set of six options: stainless steel, nickel silver hilt, stag handle, wrist thong, compass, and two lines of blade etching. The two lines of blade etching are their respective names and birthdates.

The first one is for my youngest son, who just finished his first year of college. The knife was ordered on his first day of high school (in 2004), and came shortly after he graduated from high school (in 2008). These three photos were taken a few months ago in natural light:

Here is the same knife, but with my studio lighting:

Here it is again, shown with my own #5-6" with the same six options:

My son arguably got the better stag. :(

The ones for my daughter and for my oldest son are due in 2011 and 2013, respectively.

You and I had the same idea about a Randall for each child. My sons each received one from my collection while my two daughters chose one also and gave it to their husbands.

• Oldest daughter gave her husband a Doug Kennefick small Sasquatch, stag, nickle silver forward curved hilt and wrist thong. It is engraved with "my" name since I bought it for me but my son-in-law likes it for it's source!

• Oldest son has my first Randall, a Model #16 with sawteeth, nickle silver forward curved hilt, black micarta border patrol handle. I carried this in the Army for a couple of years.

• My youngest son got my standard model #14 (no options) that I carried for five years of my Army career.

• My youngest daughter divorced and her former husband was wise enough to give the knife back. She will give it to her "permanent" husband when she finds him. It's a Model #5-6 with stainless blade, nickle silver hilt, green canvas micarta border patrol shaped handle.

That leaves me with my only Randall left out of the 30 or so I've owned. A #16 without sawteeth, nickle silver #1 style double hilt, border patrol shaped green micarta handle and a black "C" style sheath.
