These are the knives of my childhood, small yellow handle Kent, and an Imperial Fish Knife. Grampa gave me the Kent, and my Mom bought me the Imperial off one of those cardboard displays in the drug store in town shortly before she passed away.

These three are the only knives I remember my Dad ever carrying, a Camillus stockman, small Case, and an Imperial Camp King, with the black worn off the handle.

Last, but not least, this is my favorite Victorinox, an Economy model with textured handle scales. It made two trips to China with me, and was the only knife I needed.

The worth of a knife is not only based on its quality.
Nice knives you have there. God bless your grand daughter.

Thanks for sharing these John. Sentimental value far exceeds any other measure. Nice seeing these everyday users. I remember using those old fish knives from the cardboard displays, and abusing them. I wish I still had some of my childhood knives. You fathers knives look well cared for, he had good taste

Thanks for a real good thread. The array of knives could easily be from anyman\everyman.
Those are the kind of knives I saw every day in 1950-80s here in Cen\Tx.

Nice knives and the stories to go with them, JK. Thanks.

It's great that you have all those memories and the knives to go with them!

I don't recall you ever mentioning these before, John. They're great! Thanks for sharing them, and some of your memories.

Nice knives Stomp.

I have my first knife ever, but I have no "family" knives. Quite sentimental value there.

Very special indeed, thank you for posting these. Prayers and best of luck to your granddaughter, hope she whips cancer's arse.

I have long since lost most of my special knives from childhood, but not my K. Tragbar that was a gift from my grandfather. It even came back to me after I lost it on the tundra. It is very special to me. The other knife in the picture is a knife I made when I was 14, I never really used it much, but it is special to me in that I ground it out of a leaf spring and made the handle from a moose antler and the guard from a brass pipe.

Third from the top is my grandfathers everyday pocket knife. A Case 6208 that is pocket worn and even had the tip broke off.

Because of the tip being broke I bought him the top knife back in '86-ish. A Schrade 8OT with Hoffritz etched on it to replace his "old broken knife". When he passed away my grandmother gave me both. THe 8OT still NIB and the 6208 carried by him until the end.

Second is the Camillus 886 that I bought my dad around the same time. I could have turned it over to hide the fact that he used it as a hammer at one point but he wasn't a collector. It was a tool and he worked with it.

Finally the Old Cutler. When my grandmother passed, this was found in her house. Probably another of grandpas but he hadn't "used up" the 6208 yet so why stop using it.

I clearly remember other knives from my childhood. Dad had an Opinel. I was facinated by the lock. He also had a Barlow with black delrin. Can't remember the brand but I remember sneaking it outside and having a hard time opening it. I lost my grip on the blade and gained a couple stitches because of it. I dislike barlows to this day:p.

Thanks for sharing your memories, Rupestris.:thumbup:

I don't have any family knives or anything like that. I know that they are out there but I don't have any. Maybe only time will tell.
