So, yesterday the wife comes up to me and says, "Hey, for Valentine's Day I was gonna get you a Spyderco. But, I can't find the catalog anywhere, you can just order one yourself." I was floored. Usually V-day is not that big a deal anymore after 21 years, lol.
She further explained that she and the daughter had spent some money clothes shopping so in order to be fair, I could get a knife. She also explained that it was going to be a surprise but she couldn't find my "dog eared" Spyderco catalog and didn't know what I wanted.
She didn't know I had been trucking the catalog in my backpack looking at it while at work for the last two weeks.
Anyway, she said I could get any one I wanted. I was so excited!! I broke out the catalog, then jumped on the net and started to look around. I thought about a Mantra 1 right away but I changed my mind and started looking for another PM2. These two are not high on my Spydie list, but they aren't breaking the bank so to speak either. I was about to fill the cart with a digi and black PM2.....
Then I started to think.....if burn this opportunity now on something I "sort of" want, then when the Sage 5 comes out I'll have wasted a shot to get it right when it comes out. If I held on to the "get any one I want opportunity" and used it later, then I'm getting "exactly" what I want.
So, as I looked and thought, seeing what was available for the sprints, I suddenly had an idea that could be better for me.
My wedding anniversary is coming up in April, and we usually get each other pretty good gifts. I got my Double Bevel last year at that time, so.... Yea, I could bank on something to that effect this year as well. And then I realized I needed a Sharpmaker. I've been really needing one for a long time but have been skipping it to get other knives.
Told the wife I was getting the Sharpmaker instead of a knife, and she seemed relieved. I think she thought I might try to get a Nirvana or something that spendy. She agreed that I could burn the anyone I want on the knife I really want later in the year. Deal was struck, Sharpmaker inbound.
Mantra 1 for anniversary of its available
Sage 5 for Xmas (if it's released then)
Then next year for Anniversary hopefully the PM3. [emoji3]
