Waited all afternoon for the big brown truck. (My Address had a minor typo in it.) Opened the box and WOW, there it was, a gorgeous grey FRN PE Spydie Calypso Jr. Cuts like no other knife I know! Locks up with a nice click. Hew Graham's bandage dispenser is hanging off my wall right now. I hope Mr. Sal G makes more of these!

garageboy,
now are you glad you listen to those of us who suggested the calypso jr?:D

how do you like that full flat grind? I've got one incoming too - after telling you to go get it, and confidently knowing that you won't part with it, I decided to go ahead and order one.

good one there!

It slices like no other. My gosh. Too bad my lack of skills wont be able to sharpen it :( (Learning slowly)

I have not owned or picked up a Spyderco in years and I like the way the calypso Jr. looks and want to know how the lock up is, and blade play is since it is FRN.

Get the sharpmaker - it's the best investment for your spydies. I think New Graham has good prices too.

GarageBoy, congrats on your new Spydie!!! Keeping the edge on it would be a breeze with the Sharpmaker, which comes with an instructional video for the sharpening novice. ;) I'm sure that you wouldn't be disappointed with it.

I'm on the same bandwagon as spyken in that I ordered a second Calypso Jr., "just in case" anything happens to my first.

CJ1999, even though this Spydie has FRN handles, it does have solid lockup and zero blade play.

I have both the Calypso Jr. and a S30V Native. Both have ZERO blade play, and the solid lock up inherent with the lock back design. Very solidly built knives.

I thought it would be, but wanted in put first. I owned two delicas back in 90-91 and they were lovely. I like the native as well and have to make the choice, so I shall ponder

Trust me on this.....if you like the Delica and the Native, then you'll love the Calypso Jr.. I've read somewhere that the best way to describe the Calypso is this; imagine combining the best attributes of both the Delica and the Native.

I've owned both and, IMHO, it is just that...a perfect combination. ;)

BTW, the Calypso Jr. is a limited edition run of only 1000 pieces, so get one while you can!!

Mine came in the mail today too. I must say that I doubted that a FRN handled knife could lock up so solidly. My doubts were unfounded. This is one solid little knife. Sharp as the dickens too. The handles are textured like the Ed Brown Cobra. It is a bi-directional snake skin texturing. If you are a lefty, this thing is completely reversible. Great job Sal!

Jon

The Calypso Jr also sharpens right up on the 30 degree setting of the Sharpmaker with no reprofiling.

One of the best!

I ordered mine right when it hit New Graham's site, before they email me that it was up. The blade design does make for a great slicer! I had to reprofile mine to make it even thinner and sharper. :)

The lock up is very solid.

Sounds like the sprint run of the gray Calypso jr is a stunning success. Too bad they didn't make any with teeth. :(
